Chapter fourteen

Dani: * reaches over her necklace from her desk and puts it on *
Brian: * knocks on the door *
Dani: come in
Brian: * walks in the room * how are you doing babygirl
Dani: * gets up from her seat and walks towards her closet * I'm doing okay
Brian: are you sure you're okay, I know all of this hasn't been easy Dani
Dani: * grabs her pink robe and puts it on * I'll be okay once all of this is over and Braga is gone for good, I'll be okay dad
Brian: Dani we need to talk
Dani: what do you mean
Brian: I can't let you be in this mess anymore
Dani: are you serious right now dad
Brian: yes I'm actually serious Dani
Dani: I can't back down now when we are so close to bringing down Braga
Brian: I know that Dani but things are out of control and I'm doing what's best for you
Dani: I can see how that works for you just trying to do what's best for me just like how you trying to do what's best for mom
Brian: what
Dani: mom spent her whole life trying to make you proud, she made a good life with us, she supported you about everything you've done to provide for us because you were both 15 years old when you guys had me and god help her because she made one mistake by taking your place to race now you're just trying to do what's best for me because you don't want me to go through the same damn road as you did after we lost her, just like when I lost Jason
Brian: Dani—
Dani: why won't you let me help me you with this shit it's because of mom and Jason why won't you support me by doing this because of mom and Jason, they are both is to blame for all this bullshit
Brian: you lower your voice Dani
Dani: why isn't it my home isn't it, isn't this where we supposed to talk our problems it's been 15 damn years since mom died and it's been a few damn months since Jason died so why don't we start talking
Brian: * gets tears in his eyes *
Dani: * voice quivering * I have been so lost I've been losing my mind and you don't even see it, you don't even care
Brian: * walks towards her * of course I care
Dani: * sighs heavily *
Brian: * puts his hands on her cheek * of course I care, I don't expect you to understand everything that I do that's intended to keep you safe
Dani: * push his hands away * oh stop it I hate it when you treat me like I'm a child
Brian: well whatever you like it or not young lady you are my child which why I can't let you be in this mess
Dani: then please just let do this with you, dad
Brian: I can't risk you getting hurt, Dani
Dani: " Ride or Die " remember...isn't that what you told me and mom
Brian: * sighs heavily and leaves the room *
Dani: Deep in the meadow, under the willow. A bed of grass, a soft green pillow. Lay down your head and close your eyes. And when they open, the sun will rise. Here it's safe, here it's warm. Here the daisies guard you from every harm. Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true. Here is the place where I love you.
Brian: * remembers the lullaby that Adeline sang to her and gasp tearfully *
Dani: * closes her eyes and tears rolling down *
