Nacht leaned against the balcony railing, the soft glow of his cigarette illuminating his features in the dim evening light. Morgen joined him, leaning against the opposite side of the railing, the cool breeze touching his hair.
"You shouldn't smoke, you know brother," Morgen remarked, eyeing the cigarette between Nacht's fingers with a hint of concern.
Nacht chuckled, taking a long drag before exhaling a plume of smoke into the night air.
"Old habits die hard, little brother."
Morgen shook his head, a small smile playing on his lips.
"I'm serious, It's not good for you."
Nacht raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing at the corner of his lips.
Nacht scoffed a little, taking another drag before flicking the ash off the end of his cigarette.
"Ah, little brother, always the voice of reason. I appreciate your concern. But sometimes a man just needs a vice."
"Anything new on the horizon?" Nacht asked changing the topic.
"Just the usual,Training, studying... preparing for the Magic Knight Entrance Ceremony."
"And how's the training going?"
Morgen shrugged, a faint furrow forming between his brows.
"It's... challenging, to say the least. But I'm determined to make the most of it."
"You've always had a knack for magic, Morgen. I have no doubt you'll excel."- Nacht commented on him.
Morgen's lips twitched upwards at his brother's words.
"Thanks, brother. Your confidence means a lot to me."
Silence descended upon them once more, broken only by the soft whistle of the wind. After a moment, Morgen cleared his throat.
"The truth is there's something I've been meaning to discuss with you," he began, his tone hesitant.
Nacht looked at his brother.
"Just spill it out?"
"It's about our parents," Morgen began, choosing his words carefully. "They want to celebrate our birthday next month."
Nacht's expression darkened at the mention of their parents.
"Oh joy, another family gathering," he muttered sarcastically.
Morgen senses his brother's negativity.
"It's been years since we've seen them. Don't you think it would be nice to spend some time together as a family?"
Nacht scoffed, "Nice? More like awkward and forced. You know how they are, always trying to pretend like everything's fine."
Morgen sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
"They're our parents, brother. They want to celebrate our birthday, to show that they still care."
Nacht looked away, his jaw clenched.
"I don't need their empty gestures," he muttered bitterly.
Morgen's heart sank at his brother's words, but he refused to give up.
"Please. It would mean a lot to them... and to me."
Nacht remained silent for a long moment, his expression unreadable.
Finally, he sighed heavily.
"Fine. But don't expect me to pretend like everything's okay."
Morgen nodded, grateful for even a small concession from his brother.
As they sat in uneasy silence, Morgen couldn't help but wonder what had caused the rift between Nacht and their parents, and if there would ever be a chance for reconciliation.
