backstory: Most girls adored their fathers. The men who were supposed to shape their minds and make them believe they were a perfect princess and deserved the world. Aurora, despite being named after a princess, was anything but that in her father's eyes.
Instead, she was an abomination. A child who broke the law. A means to an end. An oxygen stealer. Though in her mother's eyes, she was a queen. She was a ray of sunshine that brightened the room with her innocent, chubby smile. To her brother, she was his shield. She was the one who protected them from everyone and everything, despite her being hidden in the shadows.
But eventually, those shadows began to swallow Aurora whole. The shadows began to mold their way into her heart and darken the best parts, but she still smiled. Although she was dark and broken inside, she continued to spread happiness to those around her. Some may ask why. The honest answer is because she had to. With a mother who sobbed every time she saw her and a brother who hung onto her as if she would always disappear, she had to be the strong one.
She had to assure her mother that she was happy in her hole. She had to promise her brother that they would see each other again. She had to smile to prove that the darkness was her only fear.
