Elisa's POV
Slowly, but surely, I warmed to the idea of marrying Martin Labrousse. He had sent me letters, full of poetry written by his own hand, all about his own personal experiences. My mind told me that he was simply bribing me, but the poems were too beautiful for me to believe that they were simply written for me to accept a proposal. A few of them were hidden away in a box, the better ones were written up again and stacked on my desk. They would make a lovely addition to my room at home, or any future home I may have with Monsieur Labrousse.
In the past four months, the only news I had heard from Edward was that the Jacobite had been defeated in battle, but he was safe. He had killed an assassin, taken his robes and received a reward from a wealthy Spaniard in Havana for returning treasures, These treasures were used to open the First Civilisation site, the Observatory. I knew a lot about it, as did Edward from the notes I had written in letters. He had first found out from a crew mate on board the Jacobite, who Edward just saw as delusional. However, upon reaching Havana, he soon realised that it was all true, and he had even met the Sage, Bartholomew Roberts. He was with a man, Governor Torres, who told him a lot about the Observatory. In fact, he even had to chase after the Sage after a group of assassins tried to free him - or take him for themselves, which was how I saw it.
The tediousness of school was beginning to get to me. I was ready to go home already. I even missed my sisters, which was something I had never though would happen. They were an absolute handful, but I would much rather be with them at the moment instead of constantly studying. Of course, I would still have to continue small versions of my studies once I had passed on from my full-time education, though that was optional and I could do it with people I was more comfortable with.
This morning, a letter arrived from Monsieur Labrousse. This one did not include any poems, just a small description of himself. He also wrote about how he wished he could meet with me before I left school, though I was not allowed any visitors, not even of the suitor kind. He was so lovely. Again, that was something I never though I would admit. It was true, though, because he seemed like a wonderfully deep and intellectual person. I felt as if I would be able to have some mature conversations with him. So far, I hadn't written any letters back to him. I was too afraid.
Dear Monsieur Labrousse,
How are you, sir? Of course, my name is Elisa Roselyn Ward and I am the step-daughter of Daniel Dawson. I have long, red hair, like my mother, and brown eyes, like my biological father's. People usually tell me that I look a lot like him - my father. He was a very handsome man, so mother tells me. I have seen a few paintings, though mother would never admit to Daniel that she still has them.
I love to read and write, Monsieur, and play the violin. Should our marriage actually take place, which I expect it would, I can only wish that you will allow me to read and play music to our children. I would hate for them to not experience that. In fact, I must ask if you play any instruments or anything. Of course, you write poems, as I have quite a lot of them on my desk at school, and perhaps you could read those to our children. Or, perhaps you don't even want children, which is also fine. You will have to send me another letter with a list of your hobbies and general aspirations. If you like, I could send you a letter, including all of my hobbies and aspirations. Not that I feel as if you would really be bothered, but you can make that decision.
I suppose I have nothing more to write about. After your next letter to me, I will write another one back. If there is anything you would like to know, sir, please tell me. Thank you, Monsieur Labrousse.
With love,
Elisa Roselyn Ward.
I sighed, folding the letter and setting it inside of my sleeve to take to the front desk. A quiet knock came at the door. I made my way over to it slowly and opened it to see a girl, who must have been around about eight or nine, who stood there, rocking on the balls of her feet and was peering around me to look into my room. Her hair was tied tightly into a bun on the top of her head with a few smaller strands hugging her face. She also wore a small daisy chain around her neck and the same, boring dress each and every other girl here wore. I smiled down at her.
"Good afternoon!" She chirped. "My name is Lilith and my tutor asked me to come and get you. She asked that you bring your violin and... Oh no, I don't remember what else she wanted you to bring..." Her eyes caught with mine. "Sorry, Elisa."
"That's alright, Lilith. Would you do me a favour and ask that this letter is put into an envelope?" I handed over the letter. "Here." I quickly jotted down the address on a scrap of paper. "Have the woman write this on the envelope and then send it. I will get downstairs in a moment." She looked at the address and the clear side of the letter. She giggled and nodded.
"Oh! I remember! The lady wanted you to bring her your borrowed book from the library." I frowned.
"Yes. She wanted me to play some violin for the students who were reading in there. Thank you, Lilith. Don't forget about the letter, please." Lilith grinned and sprinted down the hall.
I grabbed my violin and tucked my book under my arm. All I wanted to do was sleep, but I was going to earn some money by playing in the library, so I wasn't too bothered by that. Now that I was so far into my education, I was allowed to go into town every so often. Mostly, I bought gifts for my family and Edward, including a few dolls for my sisters. I stored almost everything I bought, except books, in my suitcase under my bed. Along with my purchases, there were a few dresses which I had brought with me just in case. However, no one really knew about everything in my room. Well, the librarian knew, hence why she was paying me a few shillings to play the violin - I suppose she was bribing me to use my things. She had also requested that I let her borrow my book of poems, though I had to decline. That might be why her promise of two shillings decreased to one shilling, but I wasn't all that bothered. I just didn't like other people touching my things, especially something as dear to me as that book.

(A/N) Hello guys!! I just wanted to ask how you felt about Elisa's character? As I write this, I have only just posted chapter seventeen, so I won't get any answers for a bit, but I would love some creative criticism. If there are any cloudy parts in her character development, feel free to ask, or if you think I should change something. I can't promise that I will agree with you and change it (she is like my child, after all) but I will certainly take everything into consideration. Anyway, I'm leaving. Bye! See you in chapter twenty :D Also, I accidentally posted chapter Twenty Five the other day. Sorry for that. I hope none of you read it because of spoilers and crap but ya know. Anyway, I'm actually leaving now! Bye!
