Chapter 19: Avoidance

Summary- When Rocky notices Zuma starts to avoid him, he is determined to find out why.

Zuma's POV

*Text between Zuma and Skye*

Skye- Hey Zuma are you available to hang out at the mall when classes are done for the day?

...

Zuma- Sure but I thought you were supposed to hang out with Chase today

...

Skye- Well I was but I told him that I had to reschedule and besides he had a meeting in his criminal justice class today after school

...

Zuma- Well ok i'll see you there

...

Skye- Ok bye boo 🩷

I thought to myself why would Skye just randomly ask to hang out. Usually we'd get together and plan ahead but maybe she really just wants to hang out. It has been a long time since me and her got to hang out together, so maybe this will be fun. After school ended I head towards the dorm to freshen up and get dressed. After I got out the bathroom from showering and getting dressed Rocky had walked through the room door. From the moment he walked in I smelled a whiff of smoke and immediately knew he was smoking. He tried to talk to me but the thought of him smoking just makes me upset but I just ignored it and walked out. I headed to the student parking lot, got in my car, and headed to the mall.

34 Minutes Later

Once I got to the mall I got a message from Skye saying that she was at the smoothie stand getting us some strawberry smoothies. Once I got there I saw her sitting at a table and headed over to her. As we sat and talked she told me that she wanted to ask me something. "Hey Zuma, have you been feeling ok lately?" she asked as she placed her paw on mine. "Um...yeah, why'd you ask?" I asked with curiosity. "Well I was asked to see if you were okay because you've been acting strange lately and I just wanted to make sure you were ok." She said. I sighed, "Did Wocky ask you to talk to me?" I ask knowing it was his doing. "Well yes, he told me that you have been avoiding him lately and he just wants to know why. He really cares about you." She said as I put my head down. I sighed, "Well it's just that Wocky hasn't been taking care of himself. He started smoking and I don't like that for him. Between him smoking and drinking it makes me worried about how it will make him act." I said glaring off to side. "Well Zuma if you're worried about him then you should at least talk to him about it instead of avoiding him." She said in response. "Well that's not the reason why I've been so distant from him lately. You see a few days ago when I was supposed to meet up with you and I messaged you saying that I was waiting for Wocky, he showed up drunk and high. At that point I did try to tell him that it wasn't good for him but I'm pretty sure he wasn't listening and when he got close to me he told me something that kinda shocked me and that's the reason why i've been distancing myself from him." I said as Skye came over and placed her paw on my back. "What was it that he told you?" she asked as I looked over at her. "Well it's a little embarrassing but he told me that I was sexy." I said as I placed the side of my face on the table. "Wow! Really!" she said in a shocked tone. I sighed, "Yes." I replied in embarrassment. "Well why would that be a reason for you to avoid him?" she asked as she used her paw to lift my head up from the table. "It's because I like him ok. I've like him for a long time but I told myself I didn't want to change the bond we already have. So when he told me that it just made me feel some type of way. Then in the end him drinking and smoking at the same time is just rough for me to see, let alone be around." I said as I felt a tear start to form in my eye. "Zuma you're not going to be able to keep that a secret forever. You also can't keep avoiding him because you're going to come across him at some point, more than you know since you two are roommates." She said as I wiped my eyes. "I know but if I have to then I will." I said as I glanced off to the side. Skye sighed as she stood up. "Look Zuma, the only way you're gonna get over this is for you to talk to Rocky. If you don't like him smoking and drinking at the same do time then tell him that. Show him how much you care about him because if you keep it to yourself it'll be to late when you tell him. But anyway why don't we go and do some shopping so you can get your head straight." She said as she reached her paw out to me. I smiled and grabbed her paw and got up. As we headed towards the stores of the mall I thought to myself about wether Skye is right or not.

1 Hour Later

After doing some shopping and having fun with Skye I eventually got a message from Rocky saying that he's spending the night at Rubble's dorm due to them working on their own separate projects for their robotics class that they were in. I started to reply back but I felt as if I shouldn't at least not as of right now. With that I just put my phone away and continued to enjoy shopping with Skye
