Rocking Performance

Samyu's phone rang. It was her mom. Samyu answered it saying, "Amma neeyum Appavum ready thaane? Naanga on the way la irukkom. Ungala pick up panikarom. Mithu ku nalla surprise aa irukkum. Inniki Ava school ku pora varaikkum Naanum ivarum thaan varuvom nu nambara." Her mom said, "Adhuellam naanga appove ready. Dr. Enna sonaanga adha sollu. Test ellam normal thaane?" Samyu glanced at Abhi and responded, "Haan amaaam...adhu...vandhu...ellam normal thaan. Bayapadara madiri onnum illai. Onnu theriyuma inniki first time baby oda movement therinjudhu maa oru butterfly vayathukulla parakkara madiri" she said in excitement. After exchanging few more words of excitement she hung up the phone only to get a squeeze from Abhi, "Nalladhu thaan amma kitta solladhadhu Illati ippove worry panna arambichu avanga udamba keduthupaanga. Ellam nalladhe nadakkum. Nee dheiriyama iru." Samyu smiled.

Traffic wasn't too bad and her parents were ready at the gate. When they reached the school the parking lot was almost full. Thankfully Samyu had got tickets for the show as soon as it opened online so she had picked good seats on the third row. Abhi finally found a spot and they all rushed in. The show was almost about to start and they didn't want to be those people who would irritate others by walking in to their seats after the show started. Fortunately, they had enough time to settle down but not enough for Samyu's mom to ask a new bunch of questions about the doctor visit. Samyu was relieved when the lights were turned off. She quickly shushed her mom and they all focused on the stage. The play began with the sound of the narrator who gave a prologue and then the screen lifted. Samyu's heart melted seeing Mithu there is her costume. She looked confident. As the music began the children started the perform. The play lasted for an hour and a half. The story was about saving trees. There was pin drop silence and all the kids performed really well. At the end of the play the entire auditorium gave a standing ovation. Samyu noticed Abhi gulping down his emotions. Mithu had been fabulous and he was an extremely proud dad. Samyu held his hand and he took it and kissed. He looked at her and said, "Adhula sari pangu unakku. Look at our daughter. She truly rocked it maa." Samyu smiled and there was pride in her eyes for Mithu.

The chief guest for the day was a famous personality who was a pioneer in the field of musical theatre. She had been running her own theatre and workshops for over 30 years. Even movie actors joined her short term workshops to help them improve their skills. Infact Abhi too had attended her workshop a while ago. She was well respected in the field. She was invited to saw a few words. The principal said, "Good evening ladies and gentleman. I hope you all enjoyed the musical. I would first like to invite our chief guest Mrs. Saradha Parthasarathy, to the stage to say a few words of encouragement to our children." As soon as Saradha walked up and took the mic, she said, "Lion aa nadicha andha kozhandhaiya medaiku koopida mudiyuma please?" The principal called out, "Sangamithra Abhimanyu, please come to the stage." Abhi's heart was beating fast. He wasn't sure why she had picked Mithu. Saradha was known to be brutally honest so he was scared for Mithu.

Mithu quickly walked up to the stage and stood there in attention. Saradha smiled and gestured to her asking Mithu to come closer. She placed her hand on Mithu's head and said, "You young lady, are extremely talented. You are excellent. Here is a small token of love from me" she handed a Rs. 500 to Mithu. "Unnoda expressions, vocals, dynamics, graceful movements ellame fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Actually, credit goes to Samyu. She helped me right from auditions until the last day." Mithu showed the money to Samyu saying, "Samyu this is for you." Samyu's eyes teared up. Saradha looked at Abhi and said, "Abhimanyu, unga ponna? No doubt she is so good. I still remember our workshop. Seri let's get back to the play. Ellarume romba nalla panninaanga and the concept was excellent. Do encourage kids to participate in musical theatre. I would love to invite Sangamithra to join our summer workshop, if you want dear." Mithra took her blessings and thanked her for the opportunity.

Mithu could not stop talking about her day as the family went out to dinner, after which they dropped the grandparents off. Mithu was already asleep in the car, on their way back. When the reached home, Samyu went and freshen up which Abhi picked up the sleeping Mithu and dropped her off in her bed. He then freshen up and filled the water bottles before heading to his bedroom. He was surprised to see his wife missing so he came out looking for her. He found her seated on the balcony swing, lost in thought. He smiled and walked up to her and bent down. She felt his lips grace her cheek and she smiled feebly. He asked, "Enna yosanai?" She nodded a nothing but he insisted, "En kitta kooda solla mudiyadha alavukku yosanaiya? Enkitta solla maatiya?" She sighed and said, "Mithu enna ava ammava paakave maatala? Ungala Daddy nu sollara ok. Enga amma Appa va kooda vaai neraya thatha paati nu koopadra aana naan mattum ennakume Samyu thaana? Ava vaayala enna amma nu solli kekka romba aasaiya irukku" she said, gently rubbing her stomach. Abhi knelt beside her and kissed her stomach over her t-shirt. Then he looked up into her eyes and said, "Ava kandippa solluva and it will be very special. I promise. Ava namma ponnu."

He then picked Samyu up and carried her to the bedroom.
