An untold story (Chapter 11 - Remember me when I'm gone)
When I get home from school I go straight to my room. I toss my backpack on the floor and lay on top of my bed. I kick my shoes off and sigh.
My brother is leaving today. Again.
It feels just like the first time he left. I had gotten accustomed to a life without Mike in the last year but these two weeks that he's been here brought back all the beautiful memories we've lived.
And now, he's leaving.
I feel numb. I don't want to stand up from the bed but I have to. I just have a couple of hours left with my brother and I don't want to regret not spending those hours with him.
I drag myself out of bed and head to Mike's room. I knock on his door twice.
"Come in!" He tells me.
When I open the door, he's packing the last of his clothes and my heart twists.
"Hi," I say, not bothering to cover my sad smile.
"Hey," Mike smiles at me but I can tell he feels as bad as I do.
I take a few steps forward and sit on his bed next to where his suitcase lays.
"Mel, about what you saw with Megan-" he starts to say but I cut him off.
"It's none of my business." As much as I want to know why the hell was he recreating a porn scene with that brat, it's really none of my business.
Mike is old enough to know what he's doing and I have no right to interfere in his relationships.
I'd rather die than see him dating her again, though.
"Yes, it is," he disagrees. "You're my sister and I want you to be able to trust me this kind of things one day, so I need to show you that I trust you," he tells me, plopping down on the bed next to me.
We lay next to each other as he begins his explanation, "I was just tempted by old passions and I'm not going to lie, I wasn't planning to end it in a make out session," he says, staring at the ceiling.
"I'm glad I interrupted, then," I smile.
"One day, far, far from now, when you're twenty-five or so, I'll interrupt you too and you're going to know how bad it feels," he says, very sure that I'll only have a make out session when I'm 'twenty-five or so'.
"What if that day is not that far from now? What if it happens today?" I ask him, purposely messing with him.
"Then I'll get arrested for murther," he kisses my forehead.
Sometimes I mistake him for my dad.
Speaking of my dad, I'll finally see him tonight when we leave Mike at the airport. It'll be one hell of a show to see my parents at the airport together.
I hope they're able to behave themselves at least a few minutes, so Mike can leave with a nice memory of them.
We don't talk about Megan or make out sessions any longer. We spend an hour or so talking about our lives and how much we've changed.
After that, I help him finish packing. We're currently zipping his last bag.
"Hey, we still have two hours till we have to take you to the airport. How about some ice cream?" I invite him. "I'll even bring Caroline and everything," I add, knowing that our little sister is his weak spot.
Caroline loves Mike as well, she deserves to spend time with him. There are things we can't talk about in front of her due to her big fat mouth but still I know she'd love to spend time with Mike and I can't take that away from her.
