"The bride has run off," I was about to say something when a voice interjected. The coldness in it made me shiver. I turned and saw a woman standing, her eyes red with anger. I didn't know who she was. Maami looked as if she had encountered a ghost.

The lady walked towards me and asked, "What did you just say?" I lowered my gaze, unable to answer. I closed my eyes in frustration and said, "Di has run away."

"Why were we not informed?" She looked at Maami, her eyes burning with anger. I started speaking, but she stopped me.

"Not you, dear. I am asking Mrs. Tawania here." With no other option left, Maami fell on her knees and started crying. She touched that lady's feet and begged, "I had no idea this would happen, I swear to God. I never imagined my own daughter would do this. Please forgive us."

"Forgive you? Do you know how much of a humiliation this is to us? The media is here. Forget about the media, what about my son?"

"Please forgive us. I would do anything to compensate." Maami joined her hands as her head hung low in shame.

Her eyes fell on me, her gaze made me nervous. I clutched my mother's hand, I lowered my eyes. I could feel my vision getting blurry due to tears.

It was humiliating. My family was not included during anything. In fact, we were not allowed to see the groom or know his name. Maami was so secretive about it. But now that something terrible has happened, we will also be blamed.

How is that fair?

The lady looked straight into my eyes and said, "I want you to get married to my son."

I looked up, caught off guard. No never, I could never marry someone else. I loved someone else.

I could feel Maami glaring at me. She had valid reasons. This eligible man was supposed to marry her daughter.

"What? You want this worthless child as your daughter-in-law?" Ouch. It hurts. It's not like I wasn't accustomed to her taunts.

"Is she? At least she has the courage to stand in front of me, unlike your daughter. If she had an issue with this alliance, why didn't she reach out to me? My family asked her a hundred times." She retorted fiercely, her intense glare enough to silence Maami instantly.
