I groaned out loud, annoyed. I wasn't able to stress my concerns in time before Maylyn left. There's something suspicious about that meeting with King Demetri. He's up to something, and I had a feeling it was far larger than any of us two could comprehend. Just why was there the need to change the currency? Was he doing this with the Elven Kingdom, too? That was something else to fret about. There was still no clear answer as to why the Elven Kingdom refused communication with us and only allowed the Lycan Kingdom in. In the past, it was the same thing. The elves favored the Lycans after the humans, and for the longest time, they refused any interactions with the vampires. Maybe I should go to this meeting myself and start questioning him, but then his suffocating scent made me rethink that decision. I wasn't afraid of him; I just didn't want to go through it again.

Glancing back at the now empty desk, I noticed that the large piles of documents were almost gone. Then I looked at the small amount still left on mine. Sighing and resting my head in my hand, I hurriedly got back to work. But each time I began to look over a document, my thoughts led me back to the jewelry box holding the damaged blue emerald earrings and the whole sapphire ones. And twice now, those ominous, weird, and creepy letters. Who could've done it?

Last night in my old wing was quiet, and I felt more comfortable than I had in days. No strange feelings or dread overwhelmed my body, thankfully. But the case remained open. Tapping the piece of paper to my lip, thinking hard; when would my personal maid bring that list I had asked for?

It was definitely someone in the Vampire Kingdom messing with me. I know for damned sure no one in the Lycan Kingdom would go out of their way to gift me a pair of earrings. If anything, they'd gift me a poisoned glass of wine and watch me slowly die just like their general, except this time, it would bring a smile to their faces.

Whoever was doing this knew my schedule and tastes so well that even their presence was omitted, and nothing was left behind, leaving me clueless. So would they appear in my old wing now? Or did I throw them off? The likely chance I threw them off was only possible if they were using a stone to get around, and if so, eventually, they'd be caught. The only person who knew I left my wing is my personal maid, but then does that open the door to her being a suspect again? No, she wouldn't be so foolish. It's like walking into an obvious trap.

Evadne walked in just then, forcing me to sit up straight and place the wrinkled document down. Speak of the devil, I thought.

"I've brought the list, my lady."

Taking it, I glanced over it silently and instantly became annoyed. Only two people came into that room all day, and their stories lined up. A maid and servant rearranged, cleaned, and organized the room, stating that when they arrived, a beautiful box sat on the bed, which they assumed was a gift to me, and left it alone.

Damn, I hissed under my breath. I'm back to square one. I hoped it was a staff member, but those sapphire earrings appeared out of nowhere. Unless...unless King Demetri received that gift that way in the first place, either unaware or consciously aware, knowing it would stir me up. I sat back, throwing the paper annoyed onto the desk.

"I guess I'm headed to that meeting after all..."

"My lady?"

"Inform Maylyn I'll be joining her and King Demetri tonight."

"Yes, my lady."

Leaving that room feeling less suffocating, I walked back to my old wing, lost in thought. Tonight, this meeting will be hard on me. Demetri will be very annoyed that I've come to be a part of it unannounced. He didn't find me unsuitable as a royal, and he stated that our blood being mixed was not an issue to him. It was that I had taken a prized possession of his: Kaiden. Although Demetri claims I was not the culprit, his eyes said, 'I'm watching your every move.' And That was enough to tell me I needed to stay clear of him if I wanted peace. Regardless of that, I need answers, and if Maylyn's there with me, things should go smoother. I stressed that SHOULD. But my nerves were unsteady as I prepared to face that brut of a man.
