You sat around the table with Billie and her family.
This is one of the first-ever events you're attending with your girlfriend after going public very recently.
There's a rush of anxiety coming over you as it feels like everyone in the room is looking at you and you just can't escape the feeling.
In an attempt to try and distract yourself, you took Billie's hand into yours and the feeling of your sweaty palm brushing against hers made her turn away from the conversation she was having with her brother so she could look at you.
"Is everything okay, my love?" She asked.
You shrugged your shoulders wordlessly and hoped that playing with her fingers for a few would take away your heightened anxiety.
"I'm anxious." You said as you looked into her worried eyes.
"Okay, baby. Come on, let's take a quick walk so you can get a little air." She said before she got up with you.
She put her arm around you and walked towards the bathroom with you as your heart began to beat harder and faster than usual.
Once you were in the bathroom, she closed the door and turned the lock so she could give you all of her attention without any interruptions.
Your anxiety was turning into a panic attack now as you sat on the floor and rocked back and forth to try and get a little relief.
Billie sat down beside you before pulling you closer and she began to comfort you.
"It's okay, baby. I'm here with you, right here. You're going to be okay." She soothed.
"I don't think I can do this, Billie. Everyone's staring at me. I can't take it, I can't." You spoke in a panicked rush.
"That's alright, baby. It's alright. Just focus on me." She said. "Look at me."
You looked into her eyes as you began to struggle to breathe, barely able to get a single breath into your lungs as they became tight and your chest felt heavy.
"That's my girl. Keep your eyes locked with mine. I'm here for you and you're going to get through this. Just breathe, breathe with me."
She began to take some deep breaths in before letting them go slowly for a few seconds before doing it again.
You followed her lead and, with her help, you were able to get a few breaths in.
"That's great." She encouraged. "You're doing amazing. Keep breathing. I'm so proud of you, you're doing good."
You closed your eyes to take more deep breaths as she held your hands tightly and kept whispering encouraging words to you.
"It's almost done. I know you feel overwhelmed but you're going to be okay. I'm with you." She said. "That's my girl."
You exhaled shakily a moment later, feeling your breathing and your heart rate returning to normal again.
You dropped your head on her shoulder before kissed your forehead and began to brush her fingers along your back, right against the skin that was exposed from your dress.
"I was so excited about tonight." You quietly spoke. "I love this dress so much and I love being here with you to support you and show everyone how proud of you I am. But I just got so anxious."
"That's normal, darling. Everyone gets overwhelmed. Hell, even I get overwhelmed by it all sometimes to this very day. It happens. It's a lot to take in."
"Yeah. But you're worth it." You said as you looked into her eyes again, making her smile.
"Do you want to go home? We can go home right now if you feel that you need to."
"I want to try to stay. This is a huge night for you and I want to experience it all with you."
"Okay." She said before kissing your head. "But if you get overwhelmed again, we can go. I promise."
"Okay." You agreed before kissing her lips. "Can we stay here for a couple more minutes though?"
"Darling, we can stay here for as long as you want to." She assured as she held you a little tighter. "I've got you."
