It was January 25th, meaning that it had been exactly a week since Bella's first day of school and since Grace last talked to Leah. So after school, she was going to the Clearwater house to see if Leah was actually avoiding her.

Well, she was. Until she saw what was outside.

A fine layer of snow covered the yard, dusted the tops of her car and Bella's truck, and whitened the road. All the rain from yesterday had frozen solid - coating the needles on the trees in fantastic, gorgeous patterns, and making the driveway a deadly ice slick.

"Want to drive together?" She asked Bella's as the older twin came downstairs

Normally, she would have driven herself, but Grace just didn't feel like driving today.

Bella nodded, "Yeah."

After the twins after breakfast, they exited the house to go to school. Since Grace had lived in Forks all her life, she was used to the ice and snow.

But Bella was not. She held onto tightly to her twin's hand as they walked from the door to the truck. She nearly slipped and brought Grace down with her a few times.

The drive to school was silent. Bella was lost in her thoughts and driving slowly while Grace just looked out the window.

Maybe she could bring a few things to Leah. That way, if she was down about the break up, maybe they would cheer her up.

Finally, the twins arrived at school.

"Jacob really fixed up the truck." Grace commented

Bella nodded in agreement, "It drives nicely. Especially today." She said

The redhead then remembered something that Bella didn't know, "Oh yeah. Remember to thank Dad for the snow chains." She saw

The brunette twin furrowed her eyebrows, "Snow chains?"

She nodded, "When it gets snowy, dad puts my snow tires on. He put snow chains on your truck as well." She told her sister, "Here I'll show you." She said before getting out of the truck

The twins went to the back of the truck and Grace pointed out the thin chains crisscrossed in diamond shapes around them.

She saw Bella's surprise and felt defensive of their dad, "You know dad loves us and would do anything for us, right?" She asked

The older twin was saved from response as an odd sound was heard throughout the parking lot.

It was a high-pitched screech, and it was fast becoming painfully loud.

The twins looked up, startled.

"The hell?" Grace asked as she looked around

She finally turned her towards the highway and saw her life flash before her eyes.

A dark blue van- Tyler's van- was skidding, tires locked and squealing against the brakes, spinning wildly across the ice of the parking lot.
