Chapter: 20

Madeline's POV:

I was walking around the market it with Arno as we decided to work on my side mission of who killed my mother on my sixteenth birthday. He didn't ask what had happened and I don't know whether I should be relieve or disappointed. Why would I be disappointed if he didn't ask what had happened? That would make him a nosy man sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. Then again, I do wonder if he is interested in knowing.

We have been walking around in circles and so far we are getting absolutely nowhere. I was frustrated and every lead that I had took before it was a dead end. Now, I'm with the Assassin's and with Arno and it's still no lead for what had happen. I clench my hands where my nails were digging into the palm of my hand. I was losing patience with this mystery of who murder my mother. Where am I suppose to look for? Arno was still looking around and I could tell he was frustrated as well, but he look calmer than I was.

"There must be someone that had witnessed your mother's death..." Arno was muttering.

I look over at him as he look over at me "What had happened when you're mother was murder?"

I gave him a look as I didn't want to tell him that it was at my party, but he needs to know. He is walking around in the dark because of me not telling him what had happened. He saw my hesitation and I brace myself for him to yell at, expect he didn't. "Madeline, I promise to help you. I'm not going to use the information against you or use it for a different purpose, if that's what you're worry about"

A smile was tugging the corners of my lips and I had to look away from him. My heart gave a little leap in my chest and it squeeze when he said my name. These are strange things that I'm beginning to feel again. Have I been so distant from everything? Was I blind to these sort of things? I look back at him to see him looking at me curiously. I back away from him while clearing my throat and murmured "Let's walk and I'll tell you"

Before he could answered or say anything, I turn and began to walk down the street. He caught up easily to me as my cheeks were burning from embarrassment and I murmured loud enough for him to hear "It was my sixteenth birthday and we were celebrating in my manor that we had own here. Everyone was dress elegantly and it was a night that everything had change. I came out to the balcony after dancing with a kind gentlemen. I saw a shadow figure disappearing down behind the bushes. I look around the courtyard to see my mother's face down on the ground. I let out a scream and since that day they don't know who killed her. No one knows..."

"So, she was murder with no witness. Well, this makes it that much harder than before" Arno murmured and I look at him to see that there was a hard look on his face.

I look away as we continue to walk down the street that we were on and Arno stop me as I didn't realize that he had suddenly stop. He had grab my arm and I look back at him as he asked "You weren't next to her, were you?"

"No, I was up on a balcony. I scream for help, but it was pointless as my mother was already dead" I answered quietly.

"Good" He murmured as he release my arm.

I gave him a confused look as I didn't understand what was going on and he look back at me. Arno let out a quiet sigh "Later, Madeline. I will tell you...just not right now"

I nodded to him as we made way down the rest of the street before turning onto a familiar road and I realized we were heading back to the Assassin's bureau. He murmured "Well, pick this up tomorrow again. For now, it's a dead end for what I have thought would lead us in the direction of your mother's murderer"

I nodded to him and I grab his hand as I felt myself blushing for grabbing his hand. He look back at me and I murmured to him "Thank you, Arno"

He was surprised, but a warm smile spread across his lips "You're quiet welcome, Madeline"

A smile spread across my lips as a warm feeling began to spread through me as we walk together back to the Assassin's bureau.

******************************************

We arrive back at the bureau as it was night time now and everyone was slowly getting ready to go call it a night. I was walking back to my room as I was lost in thought. Now, that I think about it. It couldn't only be the Templars, but it could also be one of the Assassin's who did it as well. We are swore enemies with the Templars and that night when they had a meeting. It was like a wake up call and I knew right there. That I wanted to get my revenge and I will not return to them at all. My place is here with the Assassins and that's final. I will not go back on my word.

When I open the door and almost drop the book that I was carrying. Arno was asleep on my bed and his hood was down. I was surprised. Was he waiting for me for to return from watching the novices sword fighting? I close the door behind me and walk over to my desk to put the book on the desk. I walk over to the bed to see that his face was peacefully and I reach my hand out to shake him, but decided it against it. I pulled his boots off, so he won't get any dirt on the bedding. I took the extra blanket from the edge of the bed and put it on him.

He's look so peaceful sleeping and he must have been tired from doing a lot of work. He also has been helping me with what I need to get done as well. I feel guilty now...

He hasn't gotten any sleep lately, because of me and going after the Templars. I will apologize to him in the morning or so. I grab a pillow and got an extra blanket that I had found in the closet. I settle down on the floor as I took my boots off as well and took my robes off just leaving my under garments on. He fell asleep before he could remove his and I'm not touching him or doing it for him. Then again, he is probably use to sleeping in his robes.

I blew out the candle before laying down on the floor and yawn as my head hit the pillow. I didn't even feel the floor that was uncomfortable as I was beginning to dose off into a peaceful slumber.
