A young Water Tribe girl watched her older sister attempt to waterbend from the small puddle. She watched in envy, wishing she could do the same as her beloved sister one day.
Katara is her sister's name and she is the last waterbender in the Southern Water Tribe. After the Fire Nation attacked their home, they took all the waterbenders, except Katara, and their mother sacrificed herself to protect her.
The young girl's eyes stared at her sister, before she turned away and sat down on the snow, grabbing some in her hands.
She opened her hands and snow fell her fingers, falling onto her lap.
"One day, I'll be like my sister and be a bender," the little girl muttered before she heard footsteps and she saw her sister walk out.
"Aya?"
The little girl sat up, staring up at her sister and gave her an awkward wave.
"Katara!" She chuckled, wiping the snow off her lap and standing to her feet. "I was not expecting to see you here!"
Katara put her hands on her hips, "did you follow me again, Aya?"
Aya is her name. She is 12 years old with beautiful dark skin and brown eyes that sparkled whenever she smiled. Her hair was dark brown and pulled back into a silk braid that laid across her shoulder. She stood tall with poise and strength like she was taught to do by her father. She is one of the most skilled warriors in her village and most gifted, but she just hasn't had the chance to show it. One day she will.
She wielded two daggers. One blue and one red. They were given to her by her father, who told her that another female warrior carried them before the Fire Nation took her.
Aya chuckled, fidgeting with her fingers, "I wouldn't say followed. I just happened to find you..when I went for a walk."
"Aya, you know you aren't allowed to go out by yourself," Katara told her sister and took her hand. "Let's go back before Sokka finds out I was waterbending."
The sisters began to make their way back home and Katara noticed her sister downcast behavior, "What's wrong, Aya?"
Aya looked up and met her sisters eyes. She shrugged, "It's nothing. But, uh, I saw you waterbending and you are getting closer."
Katara grinned, shaking her head, "Thanks, but I don't know if I'll be a pro. I don't have anyone to teach me."
"Do you think I'll be a waterbender?" Aya asked.
Katara stopped and turned to her sister, taking her shoulders. Katara stood much taller than her little sister, who stared at her with hope.
"I believe you can be whatever you want to be," Katara smiled and Aya gave her a happy grin.
"A professional penguin sledder?" Aya beamed and Katara laughed, which made Aya laugh. The sisters laughed together as Katara led her sister back home with her. "Let's go penguin sledding!"
"I love you, Aya, but we went penguin sledding last week," Katara chuckled.
"So? We can do it more than once a week," Aya giggled as they approached their village.
Aya was the youthful energy within her village. She brings light and fun to her siblings always wanting to cheer them up when they are down. They are her family and she will do anything to make sure they are alright.
