when I woke up, I checked my phone and the time. Rehearsal started at 9:30, and it was 8:30. I had an hour. Emily was coming to pick me up, so I had to be ready by 9:20. Before I got out of bed though, I clicked on a text from Emily.

I woke up like dis: flawless

To: The Emster❤️
nice hair I know why your hat is so tall now, it's to fit all of that hair sticking up!

From: The Emster❤️
Yeah yeah. I'll see you at 9:20.

I quickly rushed out of the hotel room bed I was in, and over to my suitcase that was on the ground. I put on black yoga pants and a soft, blue crop top. I knew we weren't starting any serious rehearsal, just a read through, but I wanted to be ready in case Emily, Sydney and I decided to burst into spontaneous dancing from last night( don't ask, I think we were drunk on popcorn and tiredness, and we had planned a 3 person flash mob). I threw my blonde hair up into a lousy attempt at a messy bun, and put in a blue headband. Then I put on my black converse, and grabbed my phone, and my jacket to put next to the door, and then I flopped back onto the bed, looking at my phone. My phone buzzed and I saw I had gotten a text.

From: The Emster❤️
You ready? I'm taking you out to breakfast to celebrate your first Broadway rehearsal.

I smiled at how sweet she was, and then replied,

To: The Emster❤️
Yep! Meet you outside of the hotel in ten?

From: The Emster❤️
Make it 5.

I walked out of my hotel room, locking the door behind me, and grabbing my jacket and bag just before I left. I sat on a bench outside of the hotel front and read my email from Jon, the director, before I heard someone yell,
"Hey wimpy bird! Get in the car!" in a thick New York accent, but I could tell that it was fake, and that it was a familiar voice. I looked up to see Emily in front of me in her car.
"Hey Kitty Cat, maybe I don't wanna!" I exclaimed, but opened the front seat of the car and hopped in.
"If you ever call me a kitty cat again, I may hurt you." She said as we drove away from the hotel.
~le time lapse~
Emily had chosen a very classy place for us to go eat breakfast: Starbucks. I ordered a Carmel Ribbon Crunch Frappincino(not decaf of course) and a price of coffee cake. We sat down at a little table in the corner and started to chat.
"So, is your mom staying in New York while you do the show?" Emily asked me.
"No, I don't think so. I think she is going back home, but we may be moving out here afterwards. She wants me to get the best experience I can, without her there to boss me around. She trusts you and the director to keep me safe, I assume. She is staying in the hotel room next to mine, and is flying back home next weekend." I explained. She nodded, and said,

"Yeah. Since I am 24, I have my own house, but I decided to room with everyone else to get that experience, you know? It's not the same otherwise."

"I totally get it. So, do your parents live out here too?" I asked.

"Yep. They always come to a lot of my shows. Will your family come out to see you opening night?" She explained. I nodded.

"That's nice. We should get going, it's almost 9:20, and it'll take us about 5 minutes to get to the studio." Emily told me, and we walked out of Starbucks to her car.
~ another le time lapse~
We arrived at the studio, and waited for everyone to arrive. Emily and I gave each other a look of disgust when Amelie , the prissy girl from yesterday, walked in. When Nathan walked in, I could feel Sydney and Emily's eyes on me. He winked at me as he sat down in the chair directly across from mine. Oh great, now I can't say anything without him seeing! I turned to Emily, glared, then turned to Sydney and glared, and then put my attention on Jon, who was telling everyone to be quiet. He handed out the scripts and music and every one looked over the first page. I took a highlighter out of my bag to highlight my lines in the huge packet.
"so, let's go around the table and say our names and our characters, and what Broadway shows we have been in." Jon told everyone, and pointed at Emily to start.
"Hi, my name is Emily Skeggs, I am playing The Cat in The Hat, and I was in the Broadway show Fun Home recently." She said, and then looked at me.

"Hi, my name is Skylar Winters, and I am playing the role of Gertrude McFuzz. This is my first Broadway show." Nathan look at me and smirked, by I quickly looked at Sydney.

"My name is Sydney Lucas, and I am playing JoJo. I was also in the Broadway show Fun Home."

The went around the table until they got to Nathan.
"Hi, my name is Nathan Park, and I am playing the role of Horton the Elephant. I was in Peter Pan a while ago, when it was on Broadway."
He said this without ever taking his eyes off of me, and I think everyone noticed too. I wouldn't look up at him, but I could feel his and Emily's eyes burning into my soul.

"Hi, my name is Amelie Brown, and I am playing Mayzie LaBird. I have been in many shows, the most recent being one of Gaston's admirers in Beauty and The Beast." She said, basically bragging about how great she was. Emily and I looked at each other, rolling our eyes.

Everyone else went, and we started the read through. It went well, with a lot of blushing from me, because whenever Gertrude said something about loving Horton, Nathan would stare at me, smirking. But after the second reprise of Alone in The Universe, with Gertrude and Horton, the paper said something that made me and Nathan both turn bright red and just about start yelling.
(Gertrude and Horton kiss)

"Wait, what is this?? Gertrude and Horton kiss?" I asked, my face probably looking like a tomato, just like Nathan's did across the table. Jon looked at me and said,
"Well, yes, I figured that we could add a little something new to the script to spice it up! It was my suggestion."
"Um... Ok..." Nathan said.
"uh, sure." I said, looking at my lap.

The rest of the read through went well, and afterwards we were given keys to our apartments and who we were rooming with. I was delighted to find that I was rooming with Emily, and that we were in the room next to Sydney. Emily, Sydney, and I set out to go furniture shopping for our new apartments.
