chapter ten

the next day, I woke up to a text from Jon.
From: Jon
skylar- you and the girls take the day off. we decided to have an ensemble only rehersal today.enjoy yourselves, and we will see you tmrw at 11.

Well, I guess that I had to make the most of the day, since it was my first day off. I went out into the front of the apartment, and saw Sydney sitting on the couch, watching the news on the tv, and drinking something out of a mug.

"What are you doing up so early, little one?" I asked her, walking into the kitchen.
" i just woke up, and realized I couldn't go back to sleep, so I left you and came out here!" she explained. I made a courageous decision and put one of Emily's coffee K cups in the coffee maker, just to try it. I never had liked coffee before, but Emily's always smelled AMAZING. I sat down next to Sydney once the mug was filled with steaming black coffee and I had put some of Emily's creamer in it. we watched the news, full of some good stories and some bad, something caught my eye as we were watching a story on a fire here in the city.
"Sydney, do you realize where that is?" I asked her, almost frantically.
"No, not really why?"
" that's the building right next to the theatre!  I hope the theatre isn't damaged!" I told her, and she started to look as concerned as I was.
"I'll text Jenna, she should be they right now." I said, and picked up my phone. Jenna is one of the ensemble cast that I have become friends with over the past few weeks.

hey syd and i were watching the news and saw that there was a fire next to the theatre?! is everything ok?

yeah, everything is pretty much ok now. we had to evacuate, and we are waiting outside right now,until we are all clear to go back in, but otherwise everything is alright. i will text you if anything else happens:)

"thank god, everyone is ok. jenna says they are waiting outside for the all clear right now but everything is alright." i told Sydney and we both breathed a sigh of relief.
I realized that I hadnt even tried the coffee yet. I picked up the warm mug and sipped the dark liquid. To my surprise, it was actually good!
"Um, why are you guys just sitting there? We have to get ready for rehearsal!" Emily,standing it the doorway of her room, exclaimed.
"It's an ensemble only rehearsal today, we got the day off. we have bigger things to worry about though. The building next to the theatre caught fire. everyone is ok, but i am not sure what the condition of the theatre is." I told her. she looked worried and said,
" omg. tell jenna to keep us updated."
"How did you know I was talking to Jenna? "
" she's your only friend in the ensemble. I had to guess." Emily said, then saw the coffee mug in my hand.
" are you drinking my coffee?" she asked me, eyebrows raised.
"ummmmmmmmm"

"SHE IS" Sydney exclaimed, smiling broadly at me. I glared at her, and then decided that I was going to go get ready.
I put on my fun home crop top that I bought off etsy, my blue high waisted shorts, and my red cardigan. I paired the outfit with black chucks, and then settled onto my window seat with the Wicked novel and my coffee cup.

~ ten minutes later~
Suddenly, my phone started to play raincoat of love, signaling a call. I smiled when I realized that it was my ringtone for Nathan.
"Hello?" I asked, and I could hear my smile through my words.
" can you be ready at 11?"
"what?"
"can you be ready to go out at 11?"
"im ready now, so yes?"
"good. expect me to pick you up at your apartment at 11"
"where are you taking me?"
" you'll find out.."
"ok, bye! can't wait."
"bye, sky."
I pressed the red button to hang up and smiled.
"was that your lover boy calling?" Emily said, standing at my doorway.
" maybe...." I replied, blushing a little.
" well, Sydney and i are going to stay in today, so you can go wherever you want."
"I didn't know you were in charge of me?"
"Kinda, you are still a minor so I have to watch you while your mom isn't here." Emily stated.
"oh. ok then..." I said, and stood up.
" do I look ok?"
" yeah! Perfect for a casual date with your broadway boyfriend."she told me, and I punched in the shoulder lightly.
"Yeah, ok, thanks em. Thanks for being the best friend I have ever had."
~ 11:00~
ding dong!
" ill get it!!" I exclaimed, running towards the door.
I opened it, and Nathan smiled down at me.
" hi!"
"hi! your ready to go?" he asked me.
" ready as ill ever be!" I said, and I waved goodbye to Emily and Sydney, and closed the door behind me.
" where are we going, Nathan?"
" you'll see, just come on!" he grabbed my hand and pulled me down the hallway.

Five minutes later, we were in Central Park. Nathan led me to a picnic blanket that was spread out on the grass, and we both sat down.
"Did you set this up for me?" I asked him as he reached into a picnic basket and started to pull out food.
"of course. are you surprised?"
" well, no one has ever done something like this before."
"well you do things like this for someone you love."
