Reaching For The Stars

chapter eight

[the next day]

I woke up to find Sydney sleeping on the couch, tucked in with blankets. I'm guessing Emily hadn't wanted her to go back to her room with Amelie, so she had her sleep here. I turned on the Cuisinart coffee machine and waited for it to heat up as I grabbed a coffee mug from the cupboard over the machine. It was a Fun Home mug, which we had an abundance of. Emily had about 5 that she got for free, and then I had one that I had purchased online. I put it under the machine and popped in a milk chocolate hot chocolate k cup. When my hot chocolate was ready, I held it in my hands to warm me up and walked into my room and sat at the window seat, looking out at the beautiful city. I continued to look down at the street, and the yellow taxis that were so common in the busy place. I noted that I could see Circle In The Square Theatre from here, where Fun Home was last year. I sipped my last of the hot chocolate and looked at my door as it started to open. A tired looking Emily with a bad case of bed head stumbled into my room.
"Morning.." She said sleepily.
"Good morning. What's up?"
"Jon called. Rehersal starts in 2 hours. Gotta get ready"
"What? Did he bump the time up?"
"Yeah something about big news." she slowly walked out of my room into the kitchen and I could hear the coffee pot starting. I came out of my room as well, and walked over to the couch where Sydney was still peacefully asleep. I looked at Emily and she shrugged, so I sat down next to her and woke her up gently.
"wha-why are you waking me up?" Sydney said, confused when she finally opened her eyes.
"Early rehearsal. Gotta get ready and eat so we can go." I told her, and she sat up, yawned and stretched, and threw the blanket off of her. She went to sit at the bar counter and watched as Emily threw two Pop Tarts in the toaster and got out a pan to make eggs. I disappeared into my room to change into my yellow Fun Home shirt, which I tucked into a blue skater skirt. I paired it with my blue Chucks and then went back out to the front. Sydney was devouring her eggs, and I sat next to her and ate the ones Emily had made for me. Eventually Sydney went back to her room to change, but then met us in the hallway and we all proceeded to the studio. We were quite a team, me in my yellow Fun Home shirt, Emily in her white one with a rainbow ring of keys on it with #pride in the middle, and Sydney in her " do you feel my heart saying hi" shirt.
We were the first people at the studio, as always. Jon told us the exciting news first: today we were getting our costumes, and prepping for a photo shoot tomorrow! He said that the pictures would be for advertising, and for the theatre posters and such. Basically a promotional photo shoot. We waited for everyone else to arrive and once Jon had explained the news, everyone started to go to the other room to try on their costumes. I loved my dress. Blue, sleeveless but with thick straps, and feathers around the bottom of the skater skirt. I checked the shoes,and I found blue chucks that matched the dress with a little sticky note that said: "gertrude mcfuzz" at the top!! Attached to the shoes were white socks that had the same blue feathering as the dress on the top! I quickly put them on, admiring my outfit in the mirror.
"hey birdie" said a voice behind me. I turned around to see Nathan.
"hey elephant." I said, and surveyed the grey top and pants he was wearing. Our hands met and our fingers inter landed, and I leaned onto him. I saw Emily out of the corner of my eye watching us, but at this point I really didn't care.  I heard Jon yell,
"Everyone, please come into the main studio!"
Nathan and I broke apart as we walked into the studio. I met up with Sydney and Emily, who were both looking amazing in their costumes. Emily was wearing a black suit with a vest, and a big red bow tie, along with her Cat in The Hat hat. Sydney had on a yellow skirt with a white top, and knee high socks that were white and yellow. her chucks were also yellow with white laces, which was basically the Whoville color scheme.
"People, people, calm down. I know you love your costumes, but you need to listen to me." Jon said. Everyone sat down, and he continued talking.
" so tommorow we are doing our promotional photo shoot, and I need to tell you who will be doing shots with who at what time. When you aren't doing your shots, you can watch, or hang out with the other cast members who aren't doing their shots either. Ok?" Everyone nodded.
"Ok, so first, we are doing individual shots. First will be Emily at 8:45, then Sydney at 9:15. Nathan at 9:45, , Skylar at 10:15, Amelie at 10:45, " he listed off the rest of the individual shots.
"Next we will be doing group or couple shots.
"First will be Emily and Sydney at 12:15, Nathan and Skylar at 12:45, Nathan and Amelie at 1:15...." He kept listing off names. I was to do a photoshoot with Nathan and Amelie. Great.
"And lastly we will do some full cast shots and small group shots." He looked at everyone.
"You guys ready for a big day tomorrow? " everyone cheered, and he sent us back to change out of our costumes.

"I want to actually do something today." I told Emily and Sydney as we walked out of the studio that day.
"I have an idea. Let me make a quick call and we will be on our way." Emily said, grinning. I wasn't quite sure what she had planned, but I was sure that it would be great.
