As evening descended, Valencia found herself in the kitchen, wrestling with pots and pans to prepare dinner. Mrs. Gilbert had gone for another of her evening strolls, leaving Valencia and Zephyr alone in the house. Zephyr, having finished his work, decided to lend a hand to Valencia, offering assistance with dinner preparations. "Need a hand?" Zephyr asked, approaching Valencia with a mischievous grin. Valencia glanced at him, her annoyance still lingering from their earlier encounter. "I'm perfectly capable of handling this myself," she replied curtly. Undeterred, Zephyr persisted. "Come on, let me help. It'll be faster with two pairs of hands." After a moment of hesitation, Valencia relented. "Fine, but don't mess anything up," she warned.

Zephyr chuckled as he joined her at the counter. "No promises," he teased. As they worked side by side, chopping vegetables and stirring pots, Valencia accidentally nicked her finger with the knife. Zephyr immediately sprang into action, taking her injured hand in his and leading her to the medical room. "That looks painful," Zephyr remarked, examining the cut. "It's nothing," Valencia muttered, feeling a strange warmth spread through her at his touch. Zephyr gently cleaned the wound and expertly applied a bandage, his movements careful and precise. Valencia couldn't help but admire his calm demeanor and skillful hands. "There, all better," Zephyr declared, flashing her a reassuring smile.

Valencia felt her cheeks flush as she mumbled a quick thank you. Zephyr's proximity was making her heart race, and she struggled to focus on anything else. Once the bandage was in place, Zephyr playfully admonished her. "Try to be more careful next time, Miss Clumsy." Valencia rolled her eyes, trying to mask the butterflies fluttering in her stomach. "I'll keep that in mind, Mr. Grim," she retorted, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

Back in the kitchen, Zephyr took over the vegetable cutting duties while Valencia watched, still lost in her thoughts. She couldn't shake the feeling that there was something different about their interaction today, something she couldn't quite put her finger on. Meanwhile, Mrs. Gilbert observed the scene from afar, a fond smile playing on her lips. These two, she thought to herself, they make quite the pair. As the evening wore on, laughter and banter filled the kitchen, blending seamlessly with the aroma of cooking food. Despite the challenges they faced, in that moment, they were just two friends enjoying each other's company, oblivious to the mysteries that lay ahead.
