A/N
I may have taken a little trip to Edinburgh, and I couldn't help but bathe in all of the Harry Potter goodness there. I also took the opportunity to go ghost hunting which was super fun!
I am not going away for a while now, so parts will be up more frequently now too! Tysm for your patience my loves <3☄. *. ⋆
The week passed quite slowly. I appreciated that though as it meant that I could focus more on learning about quidditch and what every position did. It started to make a bit of sense, but I found it quite complicated seeing as the only mainstream ball sports in the Muggle world consisted of a single ball. Quidditch had Quaffles, Bludgers and a Golden Snitch. Professor Snape had pulled us both to one side after a Potions class to let us know we'd be trying out for a position called Seeker. A Seeker's job would be to catch the Golden Snitch which was a small golden ball with wings. It almost reminded me of a cute chick rolled into a ball. It would fly around the pitch widely and you'd have to catch it before the other team's Seeker did, awarding your team 150 points and essentially winning the game for your team as it would end at that point too.
As Friday drew closer, a sickly feeling grew in my stomach. I'd put up with more snide remarks from Draco all week, and yet not even a word from Theo. I'd see him smile at me in lessons, a wink here and there but not a single word. I didn't understand boys and I didn't need boys messing with my head when I had a very important tryout coming up.☄. *. ⋆
"Are you nervous at all?" Pansy asked once we'd gotten back to our dorms after Friday's lessons.
"I want to say yes, I want to say no? In all honesty, I'm not sure this is even a battle I want to fight. Can you imagine the torture I'd receive from Draco if I beat him for the position?" I sighed looking through my trunk for an outfit to wear.
"Can you also imagine the attention that you'd get from Theo?" Daphne giggled.
"I'm sorry, I do-"
"Don't play dumb with us, Y/n. We've seen the way you look at him from across the common room. We've seen those glances at you too. What are we not being told?" Both of my friends had moved over to my bed smirking at me.
"There's nothing that I haven't told you both, it's just... There have been a couple of instances where he's... Y'know... held my hand and dragged me through the castle trying to find the dungeons because I got lost, and then waiting for me after my detention with Snape..." I could feel my cheeks burning again reliving the memories, warmth crawling up my body. "But he's not paid me much attention since the detention incident. Draco has probably gotten through to him," I sighed. A small frown formed on my face. I didn't like Theo, did I? We'd not really spoken before so I didn't know anything about him.
"Boys are... difficult at times," Daphne hugged me. "They never know what they want, unless they can't have it. You have to become unobtainable."
"She's right, you need to be someone he can't get easily, someone all the boys want. The way to do that is to become the youngest seeker in Slytherin history," Pansy smiled handing me my jumper that I had been looking for. I shook my head and sighed at her.
"Is it too much?" I held up the pastel purple jumper to my chest. They both shook their head grinning. "I don't know him anyway, so it's not like I care," I laughed.☄. *. ⋆
As soon as I stepped outside letting the cold, harsh air fill my lungs I was taken aback. It was a lot colder than I expected, and I didn't think my jumper would keep me as warm as I had anticipated. Thankfully, I had chunky, thick socks on and some warm leggings so the rest of me was warm. I shivered, pulling my hands into my sleeves and made the walk to the quidditch pitch.
Walking through the castle grounds right before dinner was quite peaceful. No one seemed to be about, and I was able to enjoy the peace and quiet. I'd left through the wrong door so it meant that I had a bit further of a walk to the pitch, but also meant that I wouldn't have to walk with Draco.
"Didn't think you'd actually show up, Granger," Draco shouted to me as I walked towards him and the other boy on the pitch. "As if you'd have a chance against me," he laughed.
I shook my head walking closer to him until the other boy came into full light. I assumed that was Marcus Flint. He was an average boy, with average hair and a questionable smile. His voice? Terrifying. It was almost a gruff growl whenever he spoke. Almost distracting.
"I'm Marcus Flint and I'm a Chaser and Quidditch Captain. This evening you'll both be trying out for the position of Seeker." Marcus smiled. "We've had a rough lot in our actual tryouts so this means that one of you will be getting the position after Professor Snape informed me of your skills."
"What do we have to do in tryouts then? To prove ourselves?" I questioned picking up a broom. I'd practiced flying throughout the week with Madam Hooch in private lessons, so the broom was feeling almost natural to me by now.
"I need to see your speed, reaction time, awareness and how good you are at catching. Each of you hop on a broom and fly I'll meet you in the air," he told us then hopped on his broom and flew above us.
The rest of the tryouts felt like a blur. The only thing that would bring me back down to earth would be Draco's comments. He didn't think that I belonged there, and he seemed shocked by how much my ability had grown over the last week. Our abilities seemed pretty even though now. I was better at speed, he was better at dodging, I had the awareness down and his catching abilities were crazy. I'd grown a lot in confidence a lot over the past week while I had private lessons with Madam Hooch on special request of Professor Snape. He knew Draco didn't need them but I certainly did."Alright, come in, that's enough," Marcus shouted to us from the ground waving us down. "You've both impressed me tonight and fair warning, you'll feel it in the morning. I'll let you both know who makes the team on Friday evening just before training starts. Keep you on your toes," Marcus laughed, his voice running coarse from the shouting across the pitch. I thanked him for his time and departed, Draco following behind me.
"Don't get your hopes up," he said catching up with me. "You performed okay for a Mudblood tonight, but nowhere near as good as I did. My talent is natural, it's homegrown," Draco smirked.
"Was that a compliment from Draco Malfoy? Did Draco Malfoy compliment a Mudblood?" I questioned him, amazed at what my ears had heard.
"Shut it, Granger. It'll be the last," he said then stormed off in front towards the castle.
I'd followed behind him slowly, making sure that I didn't catch up to him and once we'd reached the castle I realised that it was well into dinner time. The Great Hall was filled with students and the tables glistened with warm food. I couldn't wait to dig in. I looked down the line of the Slytherin table until I saw my two best friends.
"Y/n! How was it?" Daphne squealed sliding along, letting me sit next to her.
"It was actually okay. Really tough, and I feel like I may have a bruise of two from a bludger tomorrow, but I loved every minute of it," I breathed. I realised I'd held it since I walked into the hall.
"I'm so proud of you! I hope you get it, you can show Malfoy who is the boss," Pansy giggled hugging me. I wrapped my arms around her and caught Theo's eye slightly down the table. He winked at me and I forced a smile back. Think unobtainable.
"How did Draco perform?"
"He performed well, we both did. I think it was actually pretty even! Who knows, this time next week you might be talking to Slytherin's next seeker!" I clapped grinning, then heard my stomach rumbling hard.
I over stuffed myself at dinner. Once everyone had finished my stomach was aching so bad. I held it as we walked slowly to the dungeons, feeling exhausted and the aches already beginning to form.
"C'mon, Y/n. Your eyes are definitely bigger than your belly!" Pansy laughed dragging me through the common room door.
"I don't want to move," I groaned laying down on one of the dark green leather sofas. I held tightly trying to control the pain of my bloated stomach.
"First years shouldn't be in the common room, we're setting up for the party in a bit!" A prefect said in a commanding voice to us.
"What do you mean?" I asked, from the comfort of my new found bed.
"First and second years aren't allowed to attend and you'll be in your dorms tonight girls, go along," Gemma said coming over to shoo us off. Pansy pulled me off the comfort of the cold sofa and we sulked back to our dorms.
"I can't wait until we're old enough to be at the parties, it would be so much fun," Daphne sighed draping herself over her bed, hand on head like a damsel in distress.
"I'd much rather get an early night, today has been such a big day. How about we talk about it tomorrow, and we can plan all of the future parties we'll be going to within the next couple of years?" I asked her slipping into my pyjamas.
"Boo, you're boring. I want to dance with some boys and have some fun. Pans, do you want to sneak in?" She asked leaning on Pansy's bed.
"Definitely not, Daph. It's too late as it is. I want to get an early night so we can get up early and actually explore tomorrow. Please?" Pansy's eyes rounded as she pulled a puppy dog face.
"If we must, but you girls owe me with the biggest party ever," she frowned climbing into bed.
"Pinky promise," I blew her a kiss and climbed into my bed lowering the lights and closing my eyes.
I was having the most well-earned peaceful sleep until I was awoken by loud music. I rubbed my eyes, seeing it was still dark outside with the moonlight shining through the windows. Rolling over, I caught the time on my bedside clock to see it was 11pm. I rolled my eyes. I didn't expect the music to be this loud, and there Pansy and Daphne were fast asleep as if there was nothing going on. Laying there not sleeping wasn't going to do me any good so I decided to get dressed in something comfy and take a walk out of the common room.
The common room was packed full of students. Sixth years in short dresses, dancing against boys and groups of students in the corners of the room playing dumb games. I swear I saw someone with smoke coming out of their ears. I half wanted to join them, but I wanted to get out and explore, not get caught and be given detention by a prefect.
Once I was out in the hall, passed all of the students and out of the common room I pulled my wand out of my hoodie pocket.
"Lumos," I whispered, lighting up the hallway. I squinted, being blinded by the light shining off of a knight standing up against the wall.
My footsteps echoed as I made my way up the staircases, shining my wand wherever I went. Figures in paints complained at me for waking them up as I walked by them. I didn't even know they could be 'woken up' for that matter. I continued through corridors, making my way to a door leading to one of the courtyards. Pushing the door let a loud creak echo as I stepped foot outside.☄. *. ⋆
