"According to our source, Beron is planning an attack on Pythian with the help of the mortal queens still left, minus Vassa, as well as allies in Vallahan," I say, addressing the Highlords sitting at the oval table in Helion's meeting room. Rhys sits to my left nodding his head softly in confirmation.
Everyone thankfully answered our letters and agreed to meet with us, Helion offering his court as a neutral meeting ground. Helion, Kallias, Thesan, Tarquin, and Tamlin—who took his sweet time answering the letter—all look at me with concerned expressions.
"Why is Eris here," Kallias says, throwing a guarded look at the red-headed male in the corner of the room, next to my inner circle and the other Highlord's most trusted fae. Tamlin is the only one who arrived alone, just like the last Highlord's meeting.
"Who do you think our source is?" Rhysand purrs, smirking as usual.
Helion's brows furrow. "You two..." he says, glancing between my mate and I, "are working with him?"
I chuckle. "Trust me. He wasn't my first choice of allies," I say, and watch Eris roll his eyes. "But he claims to want his father dead more than anything, and we would support that. Beron is a cruel leader, and I'm not saying his son is a saint, Mother knows he isn't, but he is a better option. Anyway, he has proven himself time and time again to be true to his word. I'm inclined to believe him about Beron, especially after seeing the Highlord's thirst for power," I finish.
"I don't care to get into the Autumn court's business, or go to war again," says Thesan, ever the neutral politician.
"So you will wait until after he has taken out a considerable number of innocents before stepping in to help," I drawl, letting the power of the High Lady of the Night Court seep into my voice.
"My court lost many in the war. Maybe not as much as other courts, but enough to warrant my hesitance in another conflict less than five years later. My people come first."
"We appreciate that," my mate says. "But if he brings allies from the other continent, from Vallahan and other parts of the Faroese realm, who knows how many enemies he will have showing up at your door after they wipe out other courts. And then you won't have any allies to save you, Thesan." Thesan's eyes glimmer with thought as he considers the possibility.
"I suppose my court will go first, considering it's the weakest spot," Tamlin says, "thanks to you," he adds and glares at me. Okay, so him saving me in the Hybern camp clearly didn't make things perfect, or my note. Not that I expected it to.
But I don't let him get to me. "You can blame Hybern for that Tamlin. And yourself." He opens his mouth to reply, likely with some kind of superficial insult, but Kallias speaks first.
"How can we trust you? How do we know this isn't some kind of plan for you two to get more power, and Eris is only helping you so you put him on his own throne."
"We knew you would ask this," I say. "Which is why we came with a trust offering for you. To show you all something that means more than anything to us, that we easily could have continued keeping a secret for his own safety. But ultimately, showing you him in order to get an alliance to defeat Beron, makes him more safe in a way."
"Him," asks Tamlin, losing the previous bite to his tone.
I nod my head to him once before motioning Mor to step forward. Everyone turns to her, and watches as she holds her hand out to her side like she's placing it on the shoulder of a child. Two seconds later, Nyx appears at her side, finally revealed by the lack of glamour.
I hear someone gasp behind me, and Nyx's face looks scared and uncomfortable to be stared at by this many Highlords, all strangers to him, minus his father, who is currently staring down every one of them, watching their every move in case they lift a finger to our son. I know without a doubt in my mind if he had half an inkling someone was going to try something, they wouldn't be able to raise their hand fully before poofing into lifeless black mist.
