"Mmm... this is quite a lovely surprise." Rosie bites down on an eyeball.
"I thought you'd be hungry after the outing." I say eating a piece of venison.
"Hey, you okay?" She looks at me.
"Splendid! Why shouldn't I be?" I ask.
"Your face." She points.
I put my hand on the slight bruises. I thought my hair would cover them, but she is precise. I should've hidden it better. I can't tell her. I wish I could but... I can't. There are too many thoughts in my head.
"It's nothing." I say.
"It usually is never nothing." She sips her tea.
"I'm fine. Really." I say.
"Hmmm. Well... okay. I don't bite usually." She takes another sip.
I look down. Great, all this talk spoiled my appetite. I eat another bite venison. I don't want her to know something is wrong. I have to keep the smile up. Always smile. Always smile. A smile lets them know whose in control.
"So... how's the Hotel?" She asks.
"Eh. Charlie still is trying but no one seems interested." I say.
"Wow. Oh shit." She says.
