Mrs. Smith invited her presumed victim to lunch. They ate a hearty meal of roast venison with fresh vegetables, washing it down with the finest wine brought from Bordeaux in France. After the meal, they had freshly picked figs and grapes.
"There's only one apple left," said Mrs. Smith, "and I insist that you have it."
"No," said the guest, "I can't."
So Mrs. Smith quickly cut it in half with a sharp knife. The guest and Mrs. Smith began to eat their halves when suddenly the guest's eyes rolled up to the ceiling, and he fell backward, dead.
"Another victim successfully eliminated," thought Mrs. Smith.
