JESSICA

"His mother? Man you move fast," Odessa is laughing on my cellphone screen.

Last night's events were too much. I needed a rational mind to debrief with me and I can happily say it was all real.

"It was obviously unplanned Odie," I add highlighter to my cheeks and nose bridge.

I finally got the chance to catch up with Julio and like the saint he is, he aligned some work for me after hearing about my father and situation. I get to make $15k plus commission if things go well tonight.

"Well, I'm happy for you regardless." Vecker is applying a mask to her face, "so what happens now?"

"Nothing," I shrug.

As weird as things have been all day, I don't regret anything from last night. Okay, maybe the throwing up part but other than that I am good.

I am ready for my unrequited crush to die because it seems I am ready to date again just not with my boss.

"What do you mean?" Vecker refills her wine glass.

She is staying in again despite me extending the invite from Julio to her but unlike me, Odessa Vecker can afford to pass up easy money like this.

"There is no more, he is still my boss and benefactor remember? This job won't last forever and I need to make enough money to get my own place after."

"Smart but—"

"I had good night Vecker, let's not push fate." I stand to spray setting mist on my face.

"Fine let's pick your dress, what are you going for Miss Beer?"

"Femme Fatale, obviously" I need to take advantage of the that commission despite the auction being for charity.

"Oh I love this game and I know the perfect shoes to go with it," Vecker gets giddy and helps me pick out my outfit.

When I look into the mirror, I nearly bust out in tears again because it finally feels like I have a grip on this life thing.

I look like myself and in turn feel like myself. I don't even regret making the decision to stay back anymore because my kitchen is no longer on fire and now in the remodeling stage.

Best part is, I didn't have to lie or hurt anyone to get here this time. I didn't have to hurt or sacrifice me.

ALEKSANDER

"Going somewhere?"

I ask because Jessica has been locked up her room and I have been too nervous to check in on her since I returned.

"Oh," she sounds surprised to find me with Holly on the couch. "I thought you were still at the gym."

"No, I returned an hour ago." I mute the TV and Holly moves closer to the screen. "I made dinner, its chicken stir fry with—" the words disappear when I turn around.

Jessica is dressed up and unlike last night, everything is on display in a short, crisscross cut out dress with thick wide shoulder straps and a V-neck front.

"Vegetable rice, nice." She walks around the kitchen in the bodycon number that ends in the middle of her narrow thighs.

I didn't even know she had a tattoo on her ribcage but its peeking through the little black dress barely concealing her body.

"I guess I should eat before I go," she drops the feathery black heels that she was holding and clips on gold hoops.

"Go?" I stand and take her in fully.
