Never is a promise

You'll say I need appeasing when I start to cry
But "never" is a promise and I'll never need a lie

My waves kiss your shore, yet they diverge back,
So never say "never", when you don't mean that

Like a lost archival in library, I crumble up,
And you issue me, but never bother to return

I'm a mother whose child has perished,
But you don't attend the funeral, you're obliged to vanish

You're the mediocre half-baked accidentally released poetry,
I'm the completed draft which got lost in artistic insecurities

Still, you'll say I need appeasing when I start to cry
But "never" is a promise and I'll never need a lie

So I promise that I'll never nit-pick your red flags,
But "never" is a promise which shatters in a pang

Poet's note -
This poem is part of poetry challenge. The challenge was to pick the last line of your favorite song and make it first line for you poetry. The song I got inspired by is "Never is a promise" by Fiona Apple.
