Prom ends and now it's Monday morning again. I haven't spoken to Regina since prom but she's made it clear, on all of her socials, that she's been with Shane O'man all weekend.
I haven't gotten out of bed all weekend, so getting up to go to school this morning has been a hassle. I refused to put on makeup and decided to just wear sweats. I tie my hair up in a messy bun and join my sister and mom for breakfast.
"Ouch, who hit you with a bus?" Cady mumbles.
Hilarious.
"Fuck off."
"Elle!" My mom shouts, shocked at my language.
I grab an apple and walk out the door. I hear my mom call for me but I keep walking towards the school.
The day goes by rather quickly, which I'm happy for. I don't think I'd survive if the day felt long.
But now it's time for lunch, I've been dreading this all day long. I sit with Janis and Damien with the perfect view of Regina's table.
I get confused when I don't see her with Cady, Gretchen, and Karen. "Has anyone seen Regina?" I ask, my confusion getting the better of me.
"I haven't noticed her, no." Damien says before stealing a bite of my sandwich that I haven't even started eating, it's probably cold by now. "Don't worry about her anymore, Elle, forget about her."
"He's right, there's plenty of queer options at this school." Janis supports Damien's claim.
I huff and rest my chin on my palm. I catch Gretchen's eye and she points behind me. I don't have enough time to turn around before-
"We need to talk."
Regina stands behind me, looking just as bad as me but... somehow she still looks stunning. The entire cafeteria goes silent, hungry for drama.
"I don't want to." I say without looking at her.
Regina rolls her eyes and grabs my wrist, pulling me away from the table and out of the cafeteria. She pushes me into the janitors closet and locks the door behind us, crossing her arms over her chest.
"What's your problem?" I ask. "You spent the entire weekend with Shane, why don't you go have a talk with him?"
"How many times do I have to say it, Elle! I don't want him! I don't love Shane, I love you! Why can't you see that!" Regina shouts at me, leaving me dumbfounded. "You're such a dipshit, Elle.." She sighs. "Why won't you let me love you?"
"I.." I shake my head, not knowing how to answer.
She's right, this entire situation was my fault. I overreacted when she said Shane was her friend and everything went downhill from there.
"I'm sorry.."
Regina frowns, "For?"
"For starting this entire argument." I sigh. "You're allowed to be friends with whoever you want, I shouldn't have reacted the way I did."
"I understand why you overreacted. I have a past with Shane.. and after what happened between me, Shane, and Aaron, I can see why your trust faltered." She steps toward me and smiles softly, touching my face. "Can we just make up and love each other again?"
I grin, "I never stopped loving you, Regina. I don't think I ever will."
She blushes and leans in, brushing our noses together. "I love you so much." Then our lips connect.

"Mom! Regina's here!" I announce as I lead Regina into my house.
My mom rushes out of the kitchen and smiles, "Hi sweetheart!" She embraces Regina in a tight hug.
My mom and Regina love each other just like a mother and daughter would. I love their relationship.. but part of me thinks my mom loves Regina a bit more than me and Cady.. I don't mind, I completely understand why.
"Hi Miss Heron!" Regina says with a bright smile, hugging my mom while keeping her hand in mine.
"Are you girls hungry? I just finished baking some cookies!" My mom says, pulling away from Regina and leading us into the kitchen that smells like sugar cookies.
"I'd love a cookie." Regina takes a seat at the table, I sit beside her. My mom sets the freshly baked cookies in front of us, I quickly snatch the one that Regina was going for. "Hey!"
I smirk smugly at her before taking a bite. She sighs with a grin and takes another cookie.
"How was your day, Elle?" My mom asks, taking a seat at the table across from me and Regina.
"Boring.. but overall really good." I smile at Regina.
"And yours, Regina?"
"My day was amazing, Miss Heron. How was your day?"
"Good!" My mom smiles. "Thank you for asking."
Regina nods and begins a conversation with my mom. The doorbell rings so I excuse myself to go answer it.
"Oh, hey guys! What's up?" I lean against the doorframe when I see that Damien and Janis are here.
"Are you free tonight?" Damien says since Janis keeps looking down at the ground, her arms crossed.
"Uh.. Regina might be staying over but-"
"I told you." Janis says through gritted teeth.
"Why, is something wrong?"
"Janis needs somewhere to stay tonight." Damien says and folds his hands. "Her parents found out about Natalie and blew up on her."
"Oh, Janis.." I sigh and look into the kitchen, Regina and my mom are still talking, "You can stay here."
"I don't want to intrude-"
"Damien can too!" I smile, "Just like old times. Me, you, Damien.. and now Regina!"
