With a haze of red smoke, Alastor and I were suddenly in my room. "We must hurry darling, and you need to think of an excuse to tell your friend," he instructed while grabbing my school bag and then dumped its content all over my bed.

"What the hell Alastor?" I groaned while scowling in his direction.

"I'm packing your bag, dear. Hurry," he answered simply, not glancing my way. His smile was subtle. Alastor actually looked worried.

I ran out to the living room to find Alivia passed out on my couch. It was the middle of the night now. Gently, I shook her arm till her eyes opened lazily. Then they almost popped out of her head.

"Jesus Christ, Danika. Don't tell me you were at the cemetery again?" she practically shrieked at me. I didn't know how to lie to her. She knows me well. Alivia has been my only family for years. I jumped from foster home to foster home my whole adolescence.

"I have a family member in West Virginia who is very sick. I have to leave in a few minutes to catch a flight." The lies spilled from my mouth like vomit. Where did the West Virginia part come from? I've never been there.

"That makes no sense. At all. You don't have any relatives, and you can't afford a plane ticket," she bluntly states. A look of hurt formed on her face.

"I've never met them, but they reached out over Facebook a few times. They want me to come in. I guess my great-aunt paid for it," I explained and glanced down at my destroyed sandals.

"That doesn't explain your state right now either."

I sighed and looked over to my bedroom. I could see Alastor stuffing socks in the front pocket of my bag. This was probably my only chance.

Grabbing Alivia's arm suddenly, I whispered, "We don't have much time to talk. I have to leave for a few days. If Eris or any of her accomplices come knocking, do not answer," I warn her. Her brows were scrunched together, as if she wanted to respond. I didn't let her.

"No questions now. When I come back. I'll tell you everything. I love you," I cried quietly. I pulled my best friend into a quick hug.

"Let m-"

"I'll see you soon." I sprint back to my room and lock the door behind me.

Alastor looks up with one eye-brow quirked up. "You'll see your dear friend in three to four days. They'll make it swift."

I'm sick from his words. "There must be another way," I insisted.

"There really isn't. I can get you whatever else you like in hell. It's time, my love." Alivia starts knocking at my door, demanding answers. Guilt filled me hearing her tell me she will help me with whatever I've gotten into. "What did you tell her?" Alastor asks with narrowed lids. Fuck. I'm a terrible liar.

"What connection do I have to West Virginia?"

His ear perked up even more, "You're starting to remember. That's where you are from. Well at least where you were from." I guess that makes sense. There was a glint of hope in his eyes. His more serious grin returns and he announces, 'We'll discuss this later. Off we go!"

I didn't fight him. I walked up to him and gingerly slipped my hand into his gloved ones. He smiled warmly down at me. I only agreed to go to such a place because he brought up Lily showing up while Alivia was home. If I'm not there, I hoped they would leave her be.

In the usual way, we magically appeared in a different room. It happened within a blink of my eye. It was a strange bedroom from what I could tell.

There was a vintage fireplace with a giant rack of antlers mounted to the wall. The walls were red and covered in more antler mounts. A messy bed was nestled in the corner of the room. This was definitely Alastor's bedroom. How interesting. I despised him so much that I refused to ask too many questions about himself.
