Holding hands, Alastor and I entered the common area in the hotel. The other residents looked up with wide eyes. Some looked happy, but others were disgusted. I really couldn't blame them.
Alastor squeezed my hand, surely noticing my shyness. "What's with the faces, friends?" He asked maniacally, there was a flicker of static in voice. He was warning them to keep their mouth's shut.
"You finally broke down the girl into agreeing to be with you, I see," Vaggie commented while giving me a cautionary look.
"I—" I started to defend myself, but Alastor interrupted while pulling me closer.
"Danika finally came to terms with our bond, is all. She wants to be here," he replied with a dangerous curl of a smile.
"She can't even speak for herself," Vaggie again shot back and stood up from the couch.
"Fine then," Alastor snipped and looked down at me, signaling me to do so.
With a scowl, I pulled away from his grasp. "He's making the situation seem worse. I'm just. . . I want to be happy. I'm trusting a decision I made a long time ago," is all I could muster up. It was true. Then I turned to Alastor, "and I can speak for myself."
"I guess you truly do belong down here," Husker muttered while cleaning a glass behind the bar.
"Alright then, listen well everyone. Do not speak to my love that way. It won't end well for you," Alastor spoke with his cruel static. His antlers grew in the way it looked on his broadcasting door and mausoleum. For the first time, I saw his shadow grow. It wore an eerie grin. Charlie told me about this part of Alastor's power, and that he could be watching from any where. "No matter what happens, she will end up back here. Even if we both fought the spell we cast, it will always try to push us together."
I let out a sigh of relief as Alastor's form shrank back to normal. Immediately after, he pulled me back against him with a possessive hand on the small of my back. It scared me a little seeing the others' judgmental demeanor's change to ones of pity.
"Are ya gonna go back to Earth?" Angel asked. He sat on the couch with a drink lazily in his hand. I knew this topic would come up. This is the part that made me question everything. I couldn't grow old and then come here. The idea of dying scared me. By this point I learned that simply teleporting and staying here would be too easy.
Before I could answer, Alastor sharply did for me. "Is that really any of your business?"
Making an irritated noise, I retorted "again, darling. I can speak for myself." I said darling in the most passive-aggressive way possible. "It's too early to discuss when I permanently will be staying here."
Alastor's hand slid to my hips, discreetly squeezing it, as if to say 'I'll get you back for that later'. To my shame, it excited me.
"As much as I hate to leave you with these hooligans. I must go into the city and see if my 'friends' fixed our problem. While I'm out, I'll think of how to punish you accordingly" Alastor purred into my ear. I felt sick from his words, too distracted to care about the last part of goodbye. Eris and her friends were most likely dead.
"Be safe," is all I muttered, but my gaze didn't reach his.
I heard him chuckle darkly, and then grab my chin. He forced me to look at him as he smirked, "while I think it's adorable that you are worried about my safety, sweetheart, I'm the scariest thing around here." That did not make feel better.
I made myself not roll my eyes at his arrogance. I knew I would pay for that later if I did. He kissed my cheek and then strolled out the front door of the hotel.
