When I was halfway out of the window, I held on to the ledge, bent my legs and pushed myself off the outside wall.
I love flying. I love the wind, the clear air and the freedom. I fly once around the whole castle to take a closer look. After about 15 minutes, my best friend finally arrived.
Kaya flies past me and I also speed up immediately. We fly around the castle again and then settle down on the roof of the narrow tower opposite my room window.
"Phew, long time no see Max." (Kaya)
"Yea, you too Kay. So, how are you? Everything all right? (Me)
" Yeah, pretty much." (Kaya)
"Doesn't sound so impressed, what did you do?" (Me)
"Well, I might have killed two little deers so we could go for a drink again." (Kaya)
"You did WHAT?! You're really crazy... when did you kill them? When they're too dead, they're disgusting." (Me)
"Calm down, they've only been dead for an hour or so. I think they'll still be good when we meet for drinks tomorrow. " (Kaya)
"OK, you're out of your mind. But thanks anyway. Where are they?" (Me)
"In a shed in the woods. Don't worry, where nobody will find them." (Kaya)
"Ok, tomorrow evening then? Would be really tasty again." (Me)
"Sure, I always wonder how you manage with so little blood. I would die if I drank so little." (Kaya)
"Well, that's the difference between born and made vampires, Kay. You're lucky you can be in the sun at all without burning up." (Me)
"Yes, I am, but it's still always funny." (Kaya)
And so we continue talking about God and the world until I hear something after about 45 minutes. It comes directly from my room, which I share with Finny and Yemaya. Finny steps to the window and looks into the darkness. I don't move an inch to avoid attracting attention, and Kaya doesn't move either. She moves away from the window again, but shortly afterwards I hear her cry out. And starts to wake Yemaya. The two of them are talking frantically, it's about me.
Shit, they've realised I'm not there. They switch on the light. I say goodbye to Kaya with a silent nod and as soon as there's no one at the window, I fly to another open window in the corridor. I climb in and walk towards my room. Luckily I've left my pyjamas on.
When I open the door to the room, both girls look at me with wide eyes and immediately attack me with questions.
"Where the hell have you been?" shouts Finny.
Yemaya was also startled:" I got the shock of my life when Finny woke me up!"
"Don't worry, I was just in the communal bathroom to go to the toilet and didn't want to risk a warning just because I wasn't in bed in case anyone checked," I said as calmly as possible.
"Next time, let me know when you're going," says Finny and hugs me. Yemaya joins in the hug.
Then we all go back to sleep.Until we are woken up by our teacher the next morning.
