I drifted awake to the sound of rushed movement beside me. Blinking blearily, I raised my head to see Adrien hurriedly gathering his clothes in a panic.

"What's wrong, Adrien?" I mumbled, voice thick with sleep.

"It's midnight, I have to get home!" Adrien cried, frantically pulling his shirt over his head. "Father will kill me if I'm not back soon."

That woke me up fast. I sat up, taking in the dark room lit only by moonlight. "Let me drive you," I offered quickly.

My concern grew as Adrien seemed unable to find his phone. Then his eyes landed on an shelf. Why is it over there.

Not wanting to panic Adrien further, I kept my worries to myself for now. "Must have gotten knocked around. Come on, I'll get you home."

I dressed swiftly and led him from the Liberty with haste.

The ride to Adrien's home was tense and quiet. I could feel him anxiously clutching my waist, no doubt worried what awaited him inside. Pulling up, I cut the engine and turned to face him.

"Call me as soon as you're able?" I said gently, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze. He nodded, leaning in for a parting kiss that lingered with unspoken worries.

-

Adrien's heart pounded as he crept through the doorway, hoping to make it to his room unnoticed. But as he soundlessly closed the door, a voice cut through the foyer.

"Adrien. It's after midnight. Where have you been?"

He froze, blood running cold at his father's stern tone. Turning slowly, Adrien met Gabriel's steely gaze. No excuse sprang to mind; his mind was blank with panic.

On instinct, it tumbled out. "I-I was with my boyfriend, Father."

This was getting more and more real by the second.

Gabriel's arched brow was the only indication of surprise. Adrien braced for anger, but it never came. His father merely said, "I see. In the future, please text or call so we know where you are."

Adrien blinked, taken aback by the nonchalance. "You're not mad?" he asked.

Gabriel looked confused. "Why would I be fucking mad. I saw it coming. Runs in family I guess. Adrien you have 3 grandmothers. I have two mothers. You might meet them one day when they get too old for they rambunctious travelling. But don't forget to text me next time." Adrien blinked multiple times before he could form words "Yes, of course. It won't happen again."

With a nod of dismissal, Gabriel turned and left without another word. Adrien remained standing there, stunned. His fear melted into confusion - his father not reacted as expected.

His thoughts chased each other endlessly as he climbed to his bedroom. But there was no answer to be found that night, and soon exhaustion claimed him. For now, all he knew was that things were changing in unexpected ways.
