A/N: So sorry its been so long since I've posted! I've been super busy between work and classes that I've barely had time to write!

At some point during the night, Travis finally fell asleep, awkwardly curled up next to Taylor on the small pull-out couch next to Avery's bed. Taylor was somehow sleeping soundly, finally relaxing now that she knew Avery was safe and seemed to be feeling better. She had started perking up almost immediately when Taylor and Travis had arrived, according to Andrea.

Around 4am, they were woken up by the alarm bell of Avery's monitor, followed quickly by the nurse rushing in with juice and several medications. She quickly greeted Taylor and Travis, who were still half asleep, before disconnecting Avery's insulin drip and trying to wake her. After a few seconds, Avery was still deeply asleep despite the chaos in the room, and the nurse quickly gave her an injection in her upper arm.

"Her blood sugar is very low now," the nurse explained, "It can happen sometimes when we try to treat a stubbornly high sugar. The injection should start to bring it up in the next few minutes, and then we'll give her some juice and check her again in about fifteen minutes."

"Why isn't she waking up?" Travis asked nervously.

"Her body's been through a lot tonight," she replied, "And low blood sugar can cause drowsiness. She should start to perk up a bit more as she comes back into range."

"And you're sure she'll be okay?" Taylor asked.

"This is a very common issue that we treat all the time here. Miss Avery is in very good hands. The doctors should be around to check in on her soon too."

As if on cue, Avery started to wake up, groaning softly as she rolled over in the bed. Taylor and Travis were immediately at her side, helping her to sit up. She whimpered quietly as she rested her head on Taylor's chest, trying to slow the spinning sensation she felt every time she opened her eyes.

"I don't feel good," she mumbled.

"I know my lovebug. Your sugar is very low right now, but they just gave you something to help," Taylor explained, gently rubbing her back.

"Can you take some sips of juice for us, girlie?" Travis asked, holding the cup out to her and gently guiding the straw to her mouth.

Avery took a few small sips, smiling when she realized that it was apple juice, one of her favorites. Travis checked his phone, letting out a sigh of relief when he saw that Avery's blood sugar was rising. She was still low, but she was heading in the right direction and no longer in the danger zone where they had to worry about seizures or loss of conciousness.

"I'm sorry," Avery whispered.

"Sweetie, you don't need to apologize for anything. We're just glad you're okay," Taylor replied.

"No, I'm sorry I made this happen. I was bad and now I'm sick," Avery argued, getting more agitated.

"Avery, I don't understand. What do you mean you made this happen?" Travis asked.

"I... I... I messed with my pump," Avery admitted, avoiding making eye contact, "I thought if my alarm went off you and Tay would come home to check on me. I didn't realize it would make me so sick. I'm sorry."

"Avery, do you understand how dangerous that was?" Taylor asked.

"I'm sorry," Avery sniffled, tears streaming down her face.

"You're incredibly lucky that nothing worse happened. You scared us, Aves. Taylor and I both love you so much and we don't want anything bad to happen to you," Travis said.

Later that afternoon, Taylor and Travis sat down to meet with Avery's doctors, hoping to make a plan to make sure that this wouldn't happen again. They had called her therapist in as well, since her anxiety was clearly playing a huge role in her behavior. They had discussed a few different options, but ultimately decided that it was probably time to have Avery try an anti-anxiety medication. They also decided to switch out her pump for a pod, which would be more difficult for her to mess with in the future since it would be controlled on a separate device.

After the meeting, Taylor and Travis sat Avery down to explain the plan to her.

"Will the medicine make me feel different?" Avery asked.

"A little bit. It should help quiet those racing thoughts you get sometimes and help your chest not feel so tight," Taylor explained.

"Okay," Avery answered quietly, "That sounds like it'll be good."

"And I promise we're always here if you need to talk. We want to see you happy, kiddo," Travis added.

"Thanks Dad... uhh I mean Travis," Avery said, her cheeks turning red as she realized her slip.

Travis couldn't hide his grin from hearing her call him Dad for the first time. He didn't want to draw attention to it and make her feel embarrassed, but he definitely wanted to find the time to talk with Taylor about it later. He didn't want to overstep, but he wouldn't lie, he loved the idea of being called Dad. He just hoped that it wouldn't be much longer until they could finalize Avery's adoption and make everything official.
