Once we get to the camping ground, Aurelia, Luna and I set up the tent while Elliana, Piper and Dylan scout out our surroundings to see if there are other campers, or any wild animals. They come back at sunset, and we have the tent set up. Elliana starts whistling. "What are you doing?" I demand in a whisper.
"It's fine, Adelynn. No one else is around. No animals, either," She told me. "That still doesn't explain why you're doing that." I told her. "The birds, Adelynn." "The birds," I deadpanned. "Or lack thereof. Do you hear any birds, or see any?" She asked in her light voice. "I guess not?" "Exactly," She said matter-of-factly.
"I need to know where they are. They're not extinct, we know that. So they're here somewhere," She told me. She's a little kooky, so I just went with it. She continued whistling. She whistled louder, then a big plane flew by with the logo of the Scientists, which I was surprised to see hadn't changed a bit.
Something shot out of it, and I didn't realize what it was until it was too late. The projectile was directed at Elliana. It hits her, and blood blooms across her blouse. I was in shock. Dylan bellows, and runs over to her and catches her in his arms. The plane is moving surprisingly slow, and Dylan rushes to grab the pistol that we got in case of emergencies at the department store, and climbs up the closest tree to us. I know what his plan is immediately.
He's going to climb the tree and shoot at the aircraft. I also know that the plane would probably shoot at him like they did Elliana. I warn him as soon as the thought enters my mind. "Dylan, Get down now!!!" He doesn't listen, though. As soon as he gets to a vantage point, he aims. His movements caused the tree the shake. The tree starts falling, and Dylan starts screaming. So does Piper. She's holding Elliana's unconscious body. When I look back, the tree is seconds away from falling. When it falls, Dylan is under it. I think he's dead. I back away, and Piper rushes to see him.
I suddenly realize that Piper's lost everyone she knew. I still have Aurelia and Luna, and now she's left alone with strangers. I come over to where Piper is sitting, and wrap my arms around her. She leans in, needing all the comfort she can get. Her sobs grow louder, and Luna and Aurelia come over to console her as well.
