I look at where Dylan landed, and the tree is completely rotted through. We decide that we have to bury them. we find a spot in the woods, and dig a grave pit. Piper lowers Elliana and Dylan into it. "What are we gonna do now?" She asks morosely. I think about it. We sit down where our tent is still set up.
Then Aurelia chimes, "Shouldn't we try to overthrow the Labs?" "Why?" I ask out of curiosity. "So that we can change it?" She says. Then, "I don't have a better idea, does anyone else have ideas?" I answer. "I guess we're going with your plan, then. What's the first step?" In the morning, we'll sneak to the main Scientist Labs, to find entryways and weaknesses. But for now, we just need rest.
I wake up to the sunlight hitting my face. There are also a few birds chirping, but not many. I wake everyone else up, and we eat the leftover fast food from the night before. We then walk along the sidewalk, towards the Main Labs. I made sure to buy a few masks at the department store, and we wear them while we walk. It helps us to not stick out as much. We're still completely different from every other person walking down the street, though. It's probably our clothes, as everyone is wearing polyester and other materials. they're wearing full jumpsuits. It's most likely because something in the polluted air will have an effect on you. I haven't seen anyone walking a dog, and I'm wondering if pets are still a thing.
We walk near the Main Labs, and then circle around it. We're circling back around it a last time, when I see someone walk out of the building. We all hesitate, because he stepped out right in front of us. He's holding a wrapped sandwich in one hand; a cup of coffee in the other. He sees us, and I can tell that he knows we're not just other civilians. I think he's gaping at us, but I can't tell because he's wearing a mask. He starts walking closer, and we back away. He notices this, and takes off his mask to introduce himself. "I'm sorry I startled you. My name is Henry, and I'm an assistant at the Labs here. I think I know who you are, and it's a pleasure to meet you," I think he wants us to know that he's not going to report us for escaping.
"Why don't you all come with me on my lunch break? I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind." We agree, because he's the most promising lead we've had since we woke up from the chambers. We walk with him to a little park. It's just a little grassy area with benches, but all the grass is dead. No one is around here, so we have complete privacy. We all sit at a picnic table, and Henry asks his first question. "You're the ones who got cryopreserved, right?" Luna answers for us. "Yes. We rebelled against the scientists in 2023."
He takes a moment to process this. Then I ask, "Why didn't you tell the security at the Labs who we were?" Henry answers, "Why would I? You came from such a beautiful place the Scientists want us to forget. They don't want anyone to know that the world used to be amazing. They think that everyone would rebel on them, and rightfully so. I, however, just want to restore what's possible before it's impossible."
He asks us about everything, and we tell him about all of the beauties that existed in 2023, like the waterfalls flowing down without a stop, the beautiful beaches with sea-green water, and lush green parks with birds singing. Then he asks us if we had a plan. "Yeah, we were going to look at the exterior of the Labs, and find their weakness so that we can break in and overthrow them." I inform him. "You have to have help from an inside source to be able to find the best entrance, get past security cameras and know the working schedule." He tells me. "Is this your way of saying you'll help us?" I ask. "Yes."
