The cold has bid its farewell, bestowing upon the world its parting gift. Spring. The arrival of spring was greeted with jubilation. Joy abounded as the season demanded happiness, adorning the world in an array of colours strewn across streets, parks, and skies alike.

Among the jubilant were the students, rejoicing at the reopening of their schools after the winter hiatus, eager to reunite with their long-missed mates.

And amid this lively scene was Haider's cottage. "Hayat!" resonates a feminine voice, as Haya instructs her daughter who was in a squabble with her brother.

"What are you two up to?" she inquires, joining the siblings at the breakfast table.

"I want to try jam today," Hayat declares, halting her mother's attempt to spread butter on her bread.

"Don't heed her, Mama. She'll leave it untouched, and wasting food is a sin," Shayan remarks, pouring jam for himself.

"What concern is it of yours? I'll have jam or go without breakfast today," the younger one retorts defiantly.

"Alright, alright. Shayan, pass the jam," Haya orders, and unwillingly he had to yield the jar.

"I bet my new shoes that you won't finish that slice of bread," Shayan casually wagers, munching away at his meal as Hayat accepts the challenge with a devilish smile.

"Ammi," their attention turned to the entrance, where Shazal stood, radiant as ever looking like a total sunshine to his mother. He is clad in a white tee and black jeans with a denim jacket casually draped over his shoulders.

Shayan gasped at the sight and abandoned his plate to rush to his brother and lift him up in a joyous spin. Before anyone could fully register, Shazal let out a shriek, fear gripping him momentarily as he was gently set down, both brothers catching their breath.

"What was that all about?" Shazal scolds, attempting to playfully wrestle with Shayan, who swiftly evades, seeking refuge behind their mother. "I felt like I was dying"

"What's gotten into you, Shayan?" she inquires, amusement dancing in her eyes.

"I was just showing him my strength. Even though he's off to college, I bet he can't lift me like I did," Shayan boasts.

Hayat scoffs, "That's quite the gamble you're making. It was utterly random, and frankly," she chews, "quite silly."

"Ammi, I must be off. Classes start soon, but I need to familiarize myself with the campus and get my schedule beforehand," Shazal announces.

"Of course, dear. Don't forget to pick up Yusra," she reminds him and receives a confused face of his in answer.

"Didn't Baba tell you both to go together?" she clarifies.
