Fears and storms :)

Hey everyone! I've been writing a little more lately and I thought that y'all deserve more of that one fanfic I never published? I've been writing a lot more and I really hope to someday publish this all. For now, here's a little oneshot of Calla and Arledge. Recap: Calla is the eldest of six to Sophie and Fitz who are both councilors.

Calla shrieked as another bolt of lightning shone bright through her tall paneled windows. Although she would never admit it, she hated severe storms. Her windows rattled with the heavy wind and boinks of hail coming down. These were the types of storms she preferred to hide under her blankets in panic until it passed. With her more recent bouts of more rattling panic attacks, her panic arose much faster than normal. Usually she could just cuddle up with her family on whatever rainy day activity they were hooked on and forgot the storm through the noise of her siblings. Today however? She was stuck in the Foster-Vacker residence all by herself. The two councilors were in an intense peace treaty meeting for many many hours that day and her younger siblings all volunteered to help at Havenfield with their newest rescue. Calla had plans with Auntie Biana earlier to buy some new dresses, but other than her early morning excursion, she was all alone. If she would've taken the time to look at the weather forecasts, Calla wouldn't have chosen to spend her afternoon by herself.

Beep. Calla crawled over to the edge of her bed to reach her imparter off her side table. Arledge Lancaster.

"Hey babe,"Arledge greeted with a typical smile,"I just wanted to check in and see how you're doing since I know you're home alone."

The uneasiness crept up her throat. "I'm ok-"

"You don't sound so convincing."

"I'm fine- ah!" Calla screamed when thunder scared her.

"Hold on, love. I'll be over in just a second."

"No, no I'm fine,"she insisted.

He gave her a skeptical look and hung up.

Two minutes later, Calla heard the familiar footsteps of her boyfriend climbing the stairs.

"Calla, baby?" Arledge called as he slowly pushed the door to her bedroom open.

She didn't respond, but she just sat on her bed staring at him.

"I'm free the rest of the day, so I'm all yours."

"O-ok."

Arledge walked over to take a seat next to the love of his life.

"Cuddles?" Calla looked up to him with puppy eyes.

He nodded. "Of course."

After Arledge scooted to be in a more comfortable and relaxed position, Calla started to unbutton his tunic. He let her continue on as he knew that she loved cuddling in his bare chest. She always said it was warm, but really it was because of how much she enjoyed the sight of his well-formed body. While she was admiring his chest, his eyes flickered to study how cute his girlfriend looked in her little black crop top and comfy pants. How could she look so good with so little effort?

"You've been staring at these,"Calla made a circle motion with her hand,"for several minutes straight.

"Well, I do find you incredibly attractive,"Arledge beamed.

She blushed and placed her head in the nook of his shoulder.

All was peaceful for a while, until another loud crack of thunder roared and the rain picked up. Calla's body spasmed and she soon felt Arledge's worry bounce off him.

"I've got you, don't worry,"Arledge cooed, pulling her tighter to him.

"I'm fine, Ari."

Lightning shone through the large windows and she hid her face into him.

"Are you afraid of weather, Calla?" Arledge asked calmly.

She shook her head defiantly.

"Empaths are terrible liars,"he scoffed. "It's ok to be scared of weather, you know."

She sat up and placed her hands on her face. "I know, I just feel embarrassed. Like Kenna and East have always liked thunderstorms like this and they're still so young. How can they love it and I feel anxious about it?"

"Because everyone is different. Your fears are going to be irrational to some and make complete sense to others. It's just how it works."

"I suppose..."

"Why don't we go downstairs and watch one of those sappy romance movies your parents love?" He offered with a sweet smile.

Calla turned to make eye contact with him and nodded. "Only if you make me some cinnecreme."

"Speaking of, have you eaten today?"

She scratched her temple sheepishly. "No-"

"Why nottttt?"

"I was out shopping with Biana bright and early. She told me we could go out for lunch, but I had homework to finish up and then it started raining and-"Calla rambled.

"Oh, Calla. I'm definitely throwing a snack tray together for you and you better eat it."

"Fine."

He picked her up and she tucked her legs around his waist as he carried her to the couch.

After Arledge had secured some snacks from the Vacker's well-stocked pantry, he sat cuddled up with Calla.

She felt protected as he gripped her inner thigh and held her tight. Every so once in a while, the storm would regain strength and scare her, but Arledge's calm grip would put her at ease. Arledge would always be there to protect her and she knew that full well.

Short, but sweet. I started writing this one a few days ago during a really heavy storm because I always get really anxious during bad storms and I want others to know that it's a normal fear to have and honestly should be talked about more. My DMs are always open if you need to talk, love yall!
