y/n's pov:

it's been six months. six months since walker came into your life and then left. just like that. he said he had to go film. he said that he was going to miss you. so much. you haven't heard from him at all. no texts, no calls, no emails, not even a letter. it's a betrayal and you can't believe that you miss him. miss him so much that it's physically painful to think about. it tugs at your heartstrings, burned into the backs of your eyelids. the rain is pounding on your windows. the same windows that walker used to climb through on those late nights when you both couldn't sleep. you would curl up under your covers and whisper sweet nothings until he fell asleep, breath warm against your cheeks. you roll over in your bed. nothing is comfortable. it's too cold in your room. your bed isn't as soft as it was last night. you're too awake. you close your eyes in an attempt to drown out your thoughts. they never shut up. as soon as you feel your breathing slow, your body settle into the mattress, theres a noise at your window. three short taps, two long ones. let me in, i'm cold. your hear jumpstarts in your chest. that was the code. the code that you and walker came up with, so you would know that it was him at your window, not a serial killer. it can't be him, though. you startle out of bed and run to your closet to pull out a softball bat from when you used to play. you hold it in front of you as you creep towards the window. you push the curtain aside and that's when you see him.

walker.

he gives you a lopsided smile, raindrops soaking his golden curls and pulling them down towards his head. it takes every fiber of strength in your body not to smile back. not to welcome him with open arms, like he didn't ghost you for half a year. you reluctantly unlatch the window and he tumbles into the room, landing ungracefully on your carpeted floor. you shut the window quickly, so the rain can't get it, then you turn to him.

"are you insane, walker?" you whisper shout at him, so you don't wake your parents.

"only for you," he gives you a soft smile.

you glare at him, doing your best not to fall for his charms.

"what are you doing here?"

"i'm here to see you."

"why?" you demand, still clutching the bat.

the tension between you and walker is palpable. it's almost visible. his eyes soften and widen as he prepares for whatever bomb he's about to drop. you prepare to hit him with the bat if he pulls some bullshit.

"please, put the bat down and hear me out, y/n," he pleads.

you put the bat down.

"why should i? why should i hear you out, walker. you broke my heart."

you almost regret saying that. the pained look that crosses his face isn't worth it.

he swallows. nervous. he's never nervous around you.

"i'm sorry, y/n. it's been a long six months and i've just-," he stops, steels himself and brings his gaze up from the floor to meet your eyes.

"i've been too afraid to tell you what i want. i know that's stupid and i should've just told you, but i was scared you wouldn't feel the same. so, i'm sorry. i'm sorry that i hurt you and i promise i will never, ever do it again," he says.

you eye him, not convinced.

"what do you want, walker?"

"i want you."

that catches you off guard. your eyes widen and your heartbeat quickens. suddenly your room isn't so cold anymore, and it certainly isn't big enough for two people.

"what?" you say, your voice a whisper, hoping against hope that you heard correctly.

he takes your hands.

"i want you, y/n. for worse or for better. and i would wait forever, but i was hoping that i wouldn't have to because, maybe you feel the same?" he cringes at his words.

you finally let your guard drop.

"i forgive you, walker. anddddd, i might feel the same."

"i'm sorry that i broke your heart, but i'll put it back together, i promise."

"pinky promise?"

"pinky promise."

you smile at your interlocked pinkies, then you look up at him and time slows to a crawl. there is nothing between you and him. nothing but space. too much space. you close it and find yourself standing directly in front of him. chest to chest, nose to nose.

"i love you," he breathes.

you stand there, lips slightly parted, hands tangled with his.

"i love you too," you respond.

"can i kiss you?"

"yes."

and he does. his lips meet yours in a cinema worthy kiss. his hands find your waist and your fingers curl into his hair, one palm cupping his cheek. fireworks explode behind your eyes. he tastes like mint and morning dew. fresh and clean and the same as you remembered him. when you finally break apart, both of your cheeks are flushed and your breathing heavy. he smiles, then tugs you over to your bed, climbing in and opening up the covers so you can follow. you do, sliding against him, slipping a hand around his neck. you press your nose to his.

"i must've lost my mind when i left you all alone and never told you why," he says.

"you could say that."

he laughs against your cheek.

"i've missed you."

"if you ever leave me like that again i will hit you with my bat," you threaten.

"oh believe me, i'm not leaving. you're stuck with me."

"ok, well good."

"i got the girl, i don't want to be anywhere else in the world."

"can you shut up so i can go to sleep."

he mimics you in a high pitched voice. you roll away from him, but he grabs you by the waist and pulls you back towards him, trapping you within his embrace. you don't fight, you don't protest, you only tuck you head into the crook of his neck. you both fall asleep with stupid smiles on your faces.

because that's how it works.

that's how you get the girl.
