walker's pov:

i love snow cones.

today my snow cone is red and blue. or blue raspberry and cherry.

i'm at the board-walk with leena. it's been so long since we've hung out together. between my filming and traveling and her school and volunteering opportunities, we barely see each other, so this is a much needed hangout.

"how's your snow cone?" leena asks, holding her phone above me.

"are you taking a point five," i eye her.

"noooo, i would never take a point five of you!!"

i take a bite of my snow cone, shivering at the coldness.

"did you just bite your snow cone?"

"um yeah? how else and i supposed to eat it? breathe it in?" i retort.

"let me try some," she leans over and takes a bite.

"hey! you just bit it too!!"

"yeah how else am i supposed to eat it walker," she snorts.

some girl runs past us, shouting for her friend to catch up. i watch her jog past.

all the thoughts in my brain stutter to a stop as she waves at me.

she's gorgeous. her y/c/h swirls behind her and the muscles in her thighs flex as she runs. she's wearing cut-off denim shorts and a crop top. her jewelry clinks against her neck and her earrings chime in her ears.

i've never seen anyone like her before.

"walker? earth to walker?" i turn back to see leena waving a hand in my face.

"sorry, i got distracted," i apologize.

"yeah i saw her too," leena smirks, "why don't you go say hi?"

"leena say hi? she's going to think i'm stupid or something."

"dude," leena smacks my arm, "she waved at you? you just stared at her. you at least owe her a hi."

i hear "fantasy" by mariah carey start playing across the way and considering i've seen free guy exactly eleven times, i immediately whip my head around to see where it's coming from.

i see the girl, standing on one of those dance machines with the squares you step on. "fantasy" is playing out of the speakers and her friend is on the second dance square.

i start to walk over, leena trailing me, until i'm standing a couple feet behind them, watching them dance.

her dancing is mesmerizing. the way her body moves has me absolutely enraptured. it's a struggle to keep my mouth closed.
