Chapter 4

"We're gonna be the first few people who get to see the mechanisms and technology of a parallel Earth. I can see it already with our names on the headlines of Babylonia."

"Is fame really something you should be thinking about at this time?"

"Of course not, it was just a joke." Karenina huffed at Teddy's remark as she had found a way to make a connection between Devola and Popola. "How are things on your end? Any problems you two have with the connection?" She asked the twins.

"None at all...I feel the same as always." Popola had answered as she looked at the Karenina and Teddy who had each taken the task of making a connection to them. Popola was being monitored by Karenina whereas Devola was monitored by Teddy.

"Everything is okay." Devola answered next as the white-haired construct nodded, her ears twitched like a bunny as she nodded at their state.

"Good to hear. If you feel like anything is abnormal in the process of the connection then tell us. Also thanks. For letting us get a good look at you two that is. My curiosity got the best of me so I apologize for asking something that might be out of line for me." Karenina told them as she looked at her computer's screen.

"By all means it's fine." Devola said. They didn't have a problem at all. They were asked by humans, or at least those that were once human. They were asked for something, even if it may be trivial they would gladly accept a request from a human. They could be helpful.

"So far so good." Teddy muttered as she stared at her screen. She saw an outline of the android's body structure as she looked around at the parts that allow the function of the body. "Besides curiosity, tell me, what is the other reason for this?" She asked Karenina as the two sat side by side.

"I was wondering if there might be something wrong with them." Karenina answered truthfully as she kept her voice low from the two androids who looked to not be paying attention to them either way. She saw as the two continued looking around the camp instead.

"I've located the OS chip." Teddy told her as she looked at the files of the many plug-ins that she had found. "Talk about useful. Displayable map, enemy data storage, objective gauges..." She looked at the plug-in chips that Devola was running on. She skims through her findings. The enemy data is useful to know about. Given the opportunity they could extract a copy of the enemy data as a way to learn what type of machine lifeforms there are.

"They seem to be running on a good operating system. Looks like the vital fluid levels are fine as she didn't lose a lot despite being attacked." Karenina looked over the system as her eyes darted around, trying to memorize everything as she began to type on her keyboard to dig deeper into what she could find. Her eyes stared with focus as she read through the parts that Popola is composed of. Still not what I'm looking for... She thought plainly while frowning at the thought of having lied to the twins.

"We've already mentioned it before but I can't help but remain cautious of all of this." Teddy spoke.

"You've got that right. Why is it that these portals made themselves appear at this moment?" She noted given there may be more than one after Devola and Popola explained to them about the machines that attacked them. Until they see it themselves, they will confirm if the Punishing Virus truly spread to the other planet or not. Although the description is leaning toward the cause being the virus. Thousands of years into the future of another world, and because of their world's problems, that world might suffer.

It's tragic and unfair to think about. Yet the cause for why the virus exists in Earth #2 is a mystery. Yet that mystery could be revealed easily given past records. It wouldn't be a surprise if the Ascendants have a type of role with the portals and the virus spreading.
