"What do you think they'd do if we walked in on them fucking?" Michael said before letting out an obnoxious laugh. Stella rolled her eyes and continued stirring the pasta, "Leave them alone, asshole."
"What if they're not?" Luke suggested. The entire room of teenagers looked at him, laughing and snorting under their breath.
"No Luke, they're definitely fucking in there," Stella said as she drained the pasta in the sink. Avery joined Stella in the kitchen once again.
Michael maneuvered from the island in the kitchen to the the den. He sat next to Luke, whose long legs took up most of the couch. Michael pushed Luke's legs off as Luke sat up, irritated, "Asshole," he mumbled under his breath.
Avery walked into the den and announced that dinner was ready. The two boys followed her back to the kitchen to grab their plates, piled high with spaghetti and bread, "Americans make spaghetti bread funny," Luke said after one bite.
Avery walked past him, bumping his leg with her hip, "You don't have to eat it," she said, "But it's good." Stella followed behind Avery, giggling under her breath.
Luke, Michael, Avery, and Stella piled into the den and turned on a movie. They ate without talking much. Most of the words exchanged were about how Stella was about to smoke Michael in Mario Kart.
Avery gathered the empty plates as Ashton walked into the room. They exchanged glances before he took her place on the sofa and she returned the dirty dinnerware to the sink, "That's Avery's place," Luke quietly mentioned to Ashton.
"What'd you say?" Michael asked Luke, who muttered, "Nothing," under his breath.
Luke migrated to the floor. When Avery reappeared, he motioned her to come sit near him. He set his head in her lap as they watched Michael and Stella compete to beat one another.
When Brooklyn and Cal descended the stairs, the den became a rumble of laughter and faked moans. Brooklyn rolled her eyes and sat on the opposite side of the sofa from everyone else. Calum sat next to Ashton, who threw his arm behind Calum and smirked at him. "Shut up," Cal blushed and stared at the flat screen on the wall.
"I didn't say anything, pal," Ashton said, winking at Brooklyn. She scoffed and moved closer to Calum.
"I wanna play," Luke said, sitting up and grabbing a third controller from the front of the room. Stella and Michael exchanged glances before Stella let out a laugh through her nose. Luke frowned as the two continued with their game. He laid his head back in Avery's lap and sighed. Avery ran her hands through his hair, "I'd let you play if it was up to me," she whispered in his ear. He smiled and nuzzled into her stomach. "I know," he replied.
Calum approached the front of the room, stealing the eyes from the colorful electronic cars racing behind him.
"Move, bitch," Michael started. "Get out the way, get out the way," Brooklyn and Stella chanted simultaneously, followed by laughter.
"Shut up, asshats," Calum said before turning off the Wii.
"What the fuck?" Stella screamed at him. Michael threw his controller, "I was winning!"
Luke raised his head out of Avery's lap as everyone impatiently waited for Calum to spit it out.
"Let's go on an adventure," Calum exclaimed excitedly.
"We all know you're chirpy because Brooke just rode your dick. But now the rest of us are pissed off because you turned off the Wii," Stella said.
"Actually," Luke repositioned, "I would love to go on an adventure."
"Shut the fuck up, Luke," Stella and Michael said in unison.
Avery silently left the room. They all looked at each other, puzzled. They heard the door out of the basement open and close, "What was that all about?" Ashton asked. Luke shrugged and followed her out.
A few minutes later, the basement door opened once more, Avery and Luke peaking their heads around the corner, "You guys coming or what?"
