Chapter 48

Much later, Ji Congzhe recalled when he truly accepted his man's pregnancy. It was probably that day at the reservoir when Lin Zhen told him in despair that he hoped he would be fine.

Perhaps at that moment Ji Congzhe was completely moved by Lin Zhen.

From that moment on, Lin Zhen was not just a fellow human being from the same world, nor just a companion living together, he was already his inseparable family, and even more so the lover whose souls blended together.

After coming down from the reservoir, Ji Congzhe was in the clearest mood in a while. The previous depression also dissipated with the mountain breeze. He felt as if he had come to life again, feeling the tranquility of the summer evening comfortably.

He even felt that his discomfort during pregnancy had been reduced a lot because of his relief.

Back in the watermelon field, the young couple prepared to take a bath with a bucket and towels and soap by the stream before it got dark. It was cool here at night and they wouldn't sweat even if they washed now.

After a day of exposure to the sun, the stream water was a little warm, but neither cold nor hot, which was just right for them to wash.

After taking a shower, Ji Congzhe moved a bench and sat by the shed to watch Lin Zhen cooking dinner.

Lin Zhen steamed the rice on the coal stove, then went to grab a handful of things from a basket in the shed and handed it to Ji Congzhe.

Ji Congzhe looked at the dried apricots in his hand and stuffed one into his mouth. It tasted sour and sweet.

Lin Zhen said angrily, "If I had known I had picked more apricots, I'm afraid this wouldn't be enough for you."

Ji Congzhe said, "It's enough to eat, not to mention I don't throw up 360 days a year."

"That's true." Lin Zhen said with a smile, "Let's go home tomorrow and bring the sour cowpeas."

When Ji Congzhe saw him cracking two eggs into a bowl, he wondered, "Where did the eggs come from? Did our hen lay eggs?"

"Yan Cen gave me a basket."

"Oh..." Ji Congzhe guessed that Yan Cen should also know about this, and he felt a little melancholy. The main reason was that a while ago, he was just like a carefree big brother, but today the big brother was unexpectedly pregnant, which made Ji Congzhe feel Somewhat embarrassed.

Dinner was simple, a plate of fried green beans and gourds, and Lin Zhen took the trouble to steam poached eggs in a pot over water.

The two of them sat at the small low table and ate in a pastoral style.

After dinner, it was getting dark, so Lin Zhen struck a match and lit a candle. Living in the watermelon field is comfortable, but the price of comfort is that there is no electricity. A candle is shaky and dim, barely lighting up a small area.

After Ji Congzhe went to bed, Lin Zhen grabbed a corner of the mosquito net with one hand and fanned the inside with the cattail fan for a while. After feeling that there should be no mosquitoes, he put down the mosquito net and carefully stuffed the excess hanging fabric into the bamboo mat.

Then he blew out the candle and climbed into bed.

It's not too dark, and you can vaguely see the moonlight outside while lying under the mosquito net.

The night wind from the mountains blew into the shed, and Lin Zhen covered Ji Congzhe with the quilt. It was still early, so naturally they couldn't sleep.
