Chapter 12- The Mystery Solved

Anger, Guilt and Regret

Those three emotions were altered in Y/N's soul. Taehyung's last words kept retreating in Y/N's memories again and again, remembering the forced smile he put on to make Y/N feel better. She wanted to find solace in her memories of him but none provided her with any, they instead provided her with heart-wrenching guilt and a strong urge to use the time machine to rewind those moments, again and again till she couldn't.

"Y/N," Ha-ri tapped her shoulder, Y/N looked back and forced a soft smile

"I'm sorry that happened to Taehyung...." She muttered, Y/N's gaze captured a flower in her hand.

"Oh! and I brought this from back there, for you!" She smiled and handed it to Y/N

"A little souvenir," she stated, with a soft chuckle.

"Thank you, Ha-ri" Y/N muttered as she took the little lily. She was grateful for the flower, but frankly, she didn't want any memories or even a souvenir from where they'd just been. The more memories she had there, the more she recalled them, made her heart fall deeper into a dark abyss.

"We're finally back," Inseong said, stretching his arms

"Yeah, and we have more investigating to do" Neria jeered lazily

Investigation, Y/N's eyes widened at realization. She might have an idea of another worthy suspect.

"Neria," Y/N called, not leaving her gaze on her.

"Hmm?"  Neria replied, as they both decided to walk home though they were still on campus.

"Why exactly couldn't you come to study with me at the library some days ago?"

Y/N investigated, Neria remained unfazed as she chuckled.

"What? Now is little Ms. Y/N suspecting me of murder?" she teased, Y/N wasn't too happy with the nickname.

"Just answer the question." Y/N said, ignoring her.

"I was busy!" She replied, her voice coated with annoyance and uneasiness

"Doing what?" Y/N further inquired, as she stopped walking with her.

Neria scoffed, "Let's just go-" "No." Y/N snapped

"Y/N seriously? Are you doing this because I was too much with Taehyung?"

Y/N's eyes widened at the realization, was she really just suspecting Neria because of natural hate and not for the mystery? Had her sudden hate subconsciously made her suspect her without even realizing it? It all made sense that way.

"I'm sorry," Y/N sighed as she let out a chuckle, not like her usual one. Things haven't been the same since Taehyung.

Neria rolled her eyes jokingly as she then continued to walk with Y/N

"Y'know it's not nice to suspect your best friend Y/N!" She jokingly scolded Y/N

"Oh and by the way" Neria spoke as they both skipped through the hallway.

"I was with Inseong, the day before" Neria chuckled as she stated her alibi.

Y/N stopped walking, making Neria look back at her bemusedly.

"Why did you stop?-" "You didn't know who Inseong was before...."

Y/N's gaze faltered on the ground as she realized. Neria's eyes widened as she realized her carelessness. 

"I....Y/N, I-" Neria tried to explain her case, but before she could Y/N ran towards the lab she first found when meeting Inseong and Ha-ri.

Surprisingly enough, Neria didn't bother to follow her, instead she fell on her knees weeping.

Neria's questioning happened a couple of days after she was in juvy. Surprisingly, the reason she committed the horrible crime was because of the election of the class monitor, as she lost to Ha-ri by just four votes. She tried to convince Mrs. Kang that she was superiorly better than Ha-ri but to no avail, she denied.

Things were changing for Y/N. On the bright side, Ha-ri became her best friend now and thanks to Inseong, Y/N knew how to solve the Pythagoras equation she was troubled with before. On the not-so-glimmering side, the guilt she had didn't really seem to go away but she's getting better and better every day! She's making a lot of good friends now, though the best one could never be replaced, Taehyung.
