School passed by quickly, as it was already the first day of October. Apparently, on the first day of every month, there was a special event at this school.
I wonder if this event was on the school brochure, because my brother certainly didn't say anything about this to me. But then again, I wouldn't expect him to mention any fun I would be having at a school, because then I'd probably refuse going to that place. Damn, I was such a boring person one month ago.
I heard from Ethan that it was a different event every month, and they were usually different from the previous years, so we didn't know what to expect. He told me some past events were a scavenger hunt, a day at an amusement park, a picnic, a spa day, fun stuff like that. I was seriously excited now, and I was positive the old me would have despised this because it would've required me to socialize with other people.
Ethan also informed me that these celebrations were rewards if the students were behaved and focused for the month, which allowed the school to be number one in the area. Of course, certain students weren't allowed to participate on this day, depending on their actions.
He also said that sometimes this day was a punishment for all students because the principal, Mr. Craw, saw it unfit to give us a day off for misbehavior and misconduct. One time, apparently, there were ten fights within the same month, so the principal made the students sit through a four hour lecture on how to treat each other nicely and respectfully. Ethan had fallen asleep during this, so he didn't remember any of it.
Well, let's hope we were fantastic in September, because I sure wasn't ready to listen to a monotonous professor talk about how we shouldn't drink and/or do drugs, or some other societal matter.
I entered the auditorium with the rest of the group and we sat in the back. Looking around, I only saw seniors, and I was kind of disappointed, hoping I would find Rose here. "Hey, where is the rest of the school?" I leaned over and asked Logan.
"Oh, today is only for seniors. On every second day of the month, it's for juniors, then the third is for sophomores, then the fourth is for freshmen," he responded.
"So, what if one of those days landed on a weekend?"
"Then everything would be pushed back. So, for example, if today was a Saturday, then Senior Day, which is what we call it, would be on the next school day, so Monday, or Tuesday, depending on if there's a three-day weekend or if we're on break. Also, each grade level has a different kind of day. So, juniors could receive a punishment while sophomores got a reward."
"Oh, I get it, thanks."
"Seniors! Can I have your attention please?" Mr. Craw's voice boomed over the microphone. He was in his usual casual apparel, a t-shirt and jeans. The noise died down immediately, everyone anticipating if today was a reward or a punishment. "I'm guessing you're all wondering what today will be?" The crowd began murmuring, and the principal asked us to quiet down again. "Well, I'm glad to inform you that-" He was interrupted because all of us students started cheering, already knowing what today was. "-today is a reward day for you seniors," he continued. We were silent once again, but now everyone was whispering, guessing what today's event would be. "For today, we will be going to the school's pool. I only planned one activity, which is the game of chicken fight. I assume you all know what that is. This game requires partners, and you cannot choose who you're partnered with, just so it's fair. Any questions?"
"What about swim suits?" A girl yelled from the back.
"Ah, great question. If you wish, you can participate in the clothing you are adorned in right now. If you have money, you can go to the convenience store and buy one there. Other than those options, you can go home and grab some swim wear, since the event doesn't start until a few hours. Of course, if you do not want to be a part of this, then you may go do as you wish; you can even go home if you like, today is a reward day after all."
