The ball arrived too soon.Chandeliers shining.
Bouquets floating.
Mistletoe hanging.
Bows and reefs hanging on curtains and walls.
Lyra hated it. She was forced to wear a poofy pink dress that looked hideous.
"You look like a cupcake" Nix laughed as he floated behind her as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. She did look like a cupcake. The skirt was awfully poofy as were the sleeves.
"I hate this" she folded her arms, glaring at herself. Nix was still laughing,
"I'm enjoying it actually, rather funny" Lyra scowled at him and he raised his arms in surrender before flying off to annoy Draco.
Lyra sighed, there was no way she was going to the stupid ball like this. Hurriedly, she searched through her room and found a pair of scissors. Cutting off the cloud of sleeves. Ripping off the puffed out skirt so it lay flat. Her dress now had a short sleeve that hung rather loose, and a straight flowing skirt. Flowers were traced across the corset.
"Okay your aunt is getting stressy so either go downstairs or sneak out, I suggest sneaking out but-" Nix froze as he saw her redesigned dress. His mouth dropped. Eyes widened. "Very nice work, you're going to be murdered for that"
"It's worth it though, I don't look like a cupcake anymore" she commented, Nix nodded in agreement.
"Yeah now you look like a pink banana" the eleven year old groaned and stormed off down the stairs to the Grand Hall.
The party was boring. Lyra was forced to communicate with her father's acquaintances, she liked none of them. Her aunt also showed her off to several of her friends, bragging about her accomplishments as well as Dracos.
The party lasted far too long, but once it was over, Lyra celebrated by staying up and gossiping with Nix.
Christmas Day consisted of Draco and Lyra receiving an exuberant amount of gifts and they enjoyed a large dinner cooked by the House Elves.
Dobby was the sweetest house elf. He often brought Lyra food to her room when she didn't want to attend dinners with ex-Death Eaters. Dobby was the best.
Pansy sent her a selection of books. None of which seemed to be of any real interest to anyone in the house.
Boxing Day was uneventful.
"We should sneak out" Nix smiled, flying around her room. He always liked to float around on his back.
"Yeah sure" she mumbled, flicking through a muggle book she'd gotten from the school library. It was called Little Women and she was thoroughly enjoying it.
"I'm being serious, I need to see the world!" Nix flew through the wall into the garden before flying back in, "let's go have some fun!"
"How could I even go anywhere with a ghost following me around?" Nix pouted and rolled his eyes as he stopped travelling around the room.
"Ugh you're boring me" Lyra groaned, lying on her bed. It would be impossible to go out and about with a ghost following her around. "If we can't go out can you put the book down, I need my gossip buddy" sighing, Lyra put the book aside and she and Nix began one of their famed gossip sessions.
Before long, the holidays were over and Lyra was sitting on the train returning to Hogwarts. Pansy was listing off all the gifts she received whilst Daphne reacted excitedly.
"Have any of you seen Casey MacMillan?" Cedric Diggory asked. He was looking at all of them.
Cedric Diggory was talking to them.
