Chapter 35: Dear Diary (Written in Chronological Order)

Heimdal sat in the fake Inkopolis Square ground. In the lockers, he found a bunch of digital notes. 

"I deserve a small break; time moves a lot slower here than in reality. I have time." Heimdal took out the notes and began to read.

Well, Final Fest is over, and unfortunately Team Order lost... But after the results were in, Pearl announced that Off the Hook was going to go on tour! I'm so excited! We'll have a lot to set up but... I think I'll be able to balance the tour with a small project I've been cooking up! Project Memeverse. (Name Pending)

I've been noticing a lot more Octolings finally joining on the surface after Eight escaped the Metros. It's really beautiful to see everyone getting along. But a lot of thoughts go through my mind, because I know there are still Octolings underground. I used to be a part of an organization known as the Octopus Excavation Society. The whole purpose of it was to help Octolings come to the surface since it seemed like society had more room for us to move up here. I know the entire organization is in shambles now, with all of them now being in the Metros stuck in that form Purah was in when Eight saved her... The thought of it terrifies me.

Well, Off the Hook has made it big in every city we've preformed at! It's amazing how passionate Pearl can get about music. Granted sometimes we get into small fights about it... Anyway, I've asked for help, so I don't have to work on this project alone. I've gotten back into contact with an old friend who's offered to help with the project. Meanwhile I'm trying to break into the system of Kamabo, I want to somehow extract the mem cakes from the system so I can give them back to the Octolings they belong to. I'm praying this doesn't fail.

YES! I was able to get into Kamabo's system! And: I was able to extract the mem cakes for myself. An issue however: I have no clue who any of them belong to! I've been trying to match up the memories to different Octolings so I can return them. you see, what I've found is that the system used to turn Octolings into a state like Purah was in is called "Sanitization." I really don't want to get into detail because of how angry it makes me, but I have to:

Sanitization is a process where Octolings have their memories extracted into mem cakes and then their life essence. The body becomes a husk which is injected via Ink Drip into their veins. This explains their green skin and lack of pulse. Pearl was right... they really are just... Zombies.

I've brought Eight with us to our next concert in Splatsville. It's crazy how fast this has been going. It really makes me feel more hopeful about Project Memverse by seeing how happy Eight has been in general. Sometimes I alternate between calling her "Eight" and calling her "Angel."  I think she likes being called "Eight" more because I called out "Hey Eight" to her and she had the biggest grin!

Key has finally finished his half of the program. He's given me the creative freedom to design the rest. What I've planned is: since I can't match up a mem cake to a user, I'll let the mem cake match itself up with its original owner! I've converted the cakes into colored chips that they will collect on each level of what I call "The Spire." There they have to traverse each floor, with each floor given them a colored chip. Then afterwards they have to meet me at the top where I will configure what's called a "Pallet" which is a tablet directly linked to the soul of an Inkling or Octoling which the chips being added directly into it. I've also thought that a guide would be very helpful to guide them to me. I was thinking of adding Pearl as a guide. She'd have to climb the tower to get to me. Isn't that cute!
