Abby and Bonnie waved at Brendon from the side of the stage as he came onstage through a hydraulic lift. After his first song, he looked over to where he'd suggested Abby and Bonnie watch and saw them both standing there. He smiled as he moved into his next song.
"This next song is one I hadn't really thought about putting on the setlist before. But, as I'm sure most of you know, it's pretty fitting, I suppose," Brendon said to the screaming crowd. "Tonight, the first night of this leg of tour, I want to dedicate it to my amazing daughter Abby, and my beautiful wife, Sarah."
The crowd screamed. Abby smiled at Bonnie, shyly and Brendon launched into 'Impossible Year'.
At the end of the show, Brendon took his bow, posed for some pictures Jake was taking from the front of the stage, waved at his fans and walked off stage towards his daughter and her minder.
"What did you think?" Brendon asked Bonnie as he pulled his in-ear monitors out of his ears.
"Well, I really enjoyed the concerts I saw in Montreal and Toronto. From the three hundred level," Bonnie smiled. "But this is a much better vantage point."
Abby grinned up at her tutor/nanny.
"Well, miss," Brendon said, looking at Abby. "It's late. Off to bed with you."
"Dad!" Abby whined. "It's the first night! I want to say hi to Dan and Nicole and Mike and stuff!"
"Abigail Urie," Brendon said, with false sternness. "You are 13 years old, you are several time zones away from home, you're still essentially recovering, and you're going to spend the next three weeks surrounded by these people. They're not going anywhere and I want you to get the best sleep you can get. So, do me a favour, don't be a brat, and listen to your dad."
Brendon was smirking, but Bonnie looked down at Abby and nodded.
"Abby, it is pretty late. If it's okay with your dad, maybe we can poke our heads into the dressing room to say hi, and good night?"
Brendon smiled.
"I would be okay with that," he said. "Abs, straight to bed after a quick hello, okay?"
Abby frowned.
"Fine," she scoffed.
Bonnie and Abby followed Brendon to his dressing room and found Mike, Dan and Nicole were just outside.
"Hey, Abby!" Nicole said, coming up to the girl and wrapping her in a tight hug. "How'd you like the show?"
"It was awesome!" Abby said. "Bonnie and I watched the whole thing from the side."
"I know. I saw you. I winked at you," Nicole smiled.
"Here," Dan said and handed Abby a pair of drumsticks.
"Thanks, Dan!" Abby said, tapping a rhythm on the wall. Mike came up to the duo and smiled down at Abby.
"Enjoy the show, kiddo?" he asked, ruffling Abby's hair.
"Of course," Abby said, smiling up at him. The sound of a camera shutter and a flash of light attracted Abby's attention, and she noticed Jake standing a short way down the hallway taking photos of Abby's exchanges with Mike, Dan, and Nicole.
"Hey Abs!" Jake said, coming up to the teenager. "How're you doing?"
"I'm alright, Jake. You?" she asked.
"Couldn't be better. I brought one of my older cameras for you, if you want. I'll show you tomorrow."
"Really?" Abby asked, smiling. Jake smiled back.
