I woke up lying on a pearl-white bed, a killer headache, and confused at what the hell just happened. I sat up straight, moaning at the intense pain and rubbed my temples. My last memory was of hearing that I'm some key to chaos and control. Then, apparently, I fainted? Hopefully someone could piece up my confusion.
Memory salvation came to me when a woman in her 20's in an appropriate nurse scrubs. I lazily waved a hand, trying to catch her attention. My arm felt faint, like it wasn't attached to my body, which was why waving for just a few seconds made it feel odd and numb.
"Yes, dear?" She said, clicking her heels on the grey-white floor until she was near my bed.
"I'd like to know why I came from dragon class to here in a matter of moments." I stated.
"Oh? Oh! You're the one who passed out earlier this day, correct? Oh, what a terrible fall you made. Almost cracked your little head." As she said that, I rubbed my head again, hoping that could make the agonizing pain any better. The nurse looked closer at my face, pushing up her small, round glasses. I couldn't really tell what part of my face she was looking at. My eyes again? What, were my pupils dilating from the lights you would see in a mental hospital, and just made you go insane?
The nurse stopped her looking at me, and walked a few feet to my left, picked something up from a tray and walked the distance back, her heels clicking effortlessly on the floor.
"Drink this, dear." The nurse handed me a small bottle of clear liquid. I made a confused expression and the nurse quickly answered "Oh, it's just a bottle of minkonberry juice. It's a kind of berry only native to Semora, and grows at this time of the season. It's been proven to help all kinds of problems. Now make sure you drink every last drop, dear. I'm going to go tend to the other patients." And with that, she turned and walked forward to another patient. Looking at her back, I noticed something strange. It looked like a zipper of some sort, not on her scrubs, but literally on her neck. It started just below where the spinal cord started, and seemed to go below to her legs, well at least that's what I thought, because the zipper went under her scrubs. I found that strange, but then again, everything here is strange.
I looked at the bottle of this minkonberry juice. I'm guessing I'd have to trust the nurse, and my instincts, and drink the bottle to stop the headache. The pain of the headache was so severe, I would consider marijuana if there was any (Don't worry, I never have, and never will do drugs). I uncorked the top and slowly put the bottle to my lips.
Don't drink that bottle! A thought exploded in my head, so agonizingly loud and stern, that it made me drop the bottle on the floor, spilling it's contents. I jumped at the noise from my head and the spillage.
Jinx? Where are you? I thought to Jinx. I heard beating of powerful wings to my right. I glanced there and Jinx was there, hovering behind the window, a worried expression overpowering his face.
Get out of there. Now. He thought to me again. I wasn't sure how I was supposed to do that, but the first move was to get out of the hospital bed. Something shook me, which froze me in fear, preventing me from leaving the hospital bed, let alone the room. Dark, sickening red claws clamped themselves on the other side of the bed and started crawling towards me, until a freak of nature's face appeared in my vision. Siren-red eyes, gnarled teeth, and warts and pimples clearly visible on it's face. If you've ever wanted to see what the human face looks like without the skin, and you only saw the red of the muscles, this hideous creature could suffice, minus the gross pimples and warts, that seemed to be popping themselves.
The creature crawled to me, scratching the bedsheets and nearly laying it's nails on my legs. A wide, clown-ish grin consumed almost half of the creature's face. Nightmares couldn't compare than to the horror of this creature.
"Why didn't you drink the bottle, Kyra? Are you scared? Are you scared?" The creature hissed and repeated "Are you scared?" to the point where I thought I was going mentally insane and my conscious was helping me die.
I tried to escape, nothing worked. The covers were stitched to the bed, I couldn't escape. The creature was only a few feet away from my face, and was attempting to take it's grotesque nails and scratch my face off. I shut my eyes tight enough for me to think everything was alright. A sudden force was pushed into my hands and they pushed forward. I felt my bare legs touch the colder air of the hospital room compared to the warmth of the cover. Sharp nails drew blood from my kneecaps to my ankle, and I yelped at the agonizing pain. I opened my eyes to see my legs bleeding, the covers off, and the devilish creature gone.
While I had the chance, I sprang from the bed to the cold floor, realizing that I was barefoot and ran to the nearest exit. Screams could be heard behind me, but nevertheless, I ran like I was on steroids. I didn't know where I was going, but it had to be away from what I just witnessed.
I figured I was far away as I could get to without my legs collapsing from searing pain, so I collapsed to the nearest column and poured out buckets of tears and sobs. Pain, fear, and confusion all caught up with me and that could only be expressed in my tears.
Kyra, calm down. We can hear you from the outside. Jinx thought to me again. His voice sounded muffled in my head, due to the fact that my face was buried in my knees and my head was full of mixed emotions, that telepathy was the last thing I could comprehend. I calmed down a little and thought back to Jinx.
Where are you? I thought to him, looking up to see any sort of familiar face. I heard running footsteps going towards my direction. Istinctively, I hid behind the column, breathed in, and was completely camouflauged with the white, marble column. I stood dead-still as the footsteps came closer and closer to the column I was camouflauged behind.
"Kyra? Kyra, I heard you crying and run from the medical room. Just tell me where you are." What sounded like Aaron's voice called. I still didn't come out from hiding in case it wasn't him. Fear tends to hide you from the world and you don't seem want to come out and let people help you. It's a fear that makes you lose your new trust with people. It's a fear that makes you suffer in silence.
"Kyra, I know your here. Don't be afraid, please. It's Aaron." Aaron said again. I held my breathe and quietly sidestepped around the column. A small, scarlet red flame tinted the white of the hallway. At the corner of my eye, I saw Aaron making a flame dance on his fingers. He flicked the flame once, and it morphed into a scarlet, fiery flower, its petals dancing and moving against no wind at all.
I stood away from the column, my marble camouflage fading until I had reached my normal skin color. Aaron noticed that I appeared from hiding and he smiled. I looked at the fiery flower, wanting to touch it, but was afraid of burning my hand off.
Aaron saw my eagerness and fear of touching the flower, so he got close to me and said "Don't worry, it won't burn your fingers. You're a fire student, just like me. It's alright." He put his hand around my shoulder and carefully pulled me closer to the flower, as I were some small, scared animal. Shakingly, I put a pointer finger on the fiery petals. Surprisingly, it felt nice, a cool sensation on my skin. I giggled as I put the flower in my hand, freeing me from the previous horror.
Aaron didn't retreat his hand from my shoulder, but he settled me down into a sitting position, and ran his other hand up both my legs. I looked at him with wild eyes and he shushed me.
"Trust me on this, I'm not raping you." It would have sounded funny if he had said it in a normal tone, but his was very soothing and quiet, so all I could do was calm down and look at the pretty flower. I glanced down at my legs, and the large, unnatractive cuts on my legs were gone, as if they weren't there before. I looked at Aaron, a scared, confused smile growing on my face. He enveloped me in a hug as I hugged him back.
We stood up, and he walked me to my dorm. He shook his head when I tried to give him the flower back.
"You can keep it if you want. Just so if you're scared again, it can calm you down." He said, hugging me again. I hugged him back and whispered him a goodnight. I didn't realize it took a whole day for me to pass out and escape a horror. I wanted to ask myself what the hell just happened, but fatigue hit me like a wave and I had to collapse on a bed before I passed out. Aaron whispered me a goodnight back and we parted our ways. Somehow, I think him and I will be very, very good friends.
