No one owned up to the crime. No one came up from behind and told me that they did it. No one suddenly attacked and tried to kill me. No one did anything. They just stood there, the class surrounding me, with their blank, dumb-founded faces. They acted as if I fell out of the sky, some alien creature from a distant planet. They are the ones in the sky, learning to do extraordinary things. Why they would look at me with strange faces as I flew down from a dragon really confused me. Elena walked towards me, her hooves clopping on the marble floor. She gave me a congratulatory hug.
"Oh, Kyra, congratulations!" She exclaimed. What I found awkward was that a part woman, part horse had come up to embrace me. These magical creatures still have time to be getting used to. I was also still confused about why she embraced me in the first place, and then congratulated me. Did she not see me fall to my death a few moments ago, or was she...eating the grass or something?
Before I could as why I was praised so easily, with the strange mind-reading everyone seemed to have, Elena quickly replied "Kyra, did you not see what everyone else did. You found your dragon! And It only took you one class! You are something special, Kyra, I can see it." She smiled, putting a human hand on my shoulder. The touch of her hand made my skin tingle in a very odd way. It was an indescribable feeling, like when you accidentally slice the tip of your finger with a piece of paper, a quick, stinging feeling that hurt for a short while.
I rubbed my shoulder from the slight pain after Elena took her hand off of it. She turned around and walked to talk to another teacher, who had been supposedly waiting for her before I arrived. Aaron's voice called from behind. I twirled around to properly hear him, still confused about what was going on.
"What was that?" I asked.
"I said, how did you do that? Find your dragon so easily. It took me 6 classes just to get a glimpse of her. Serenity's quite a bitch, no wonder it took her a while." After he said that, he suddenly made a sour lemon and started rubbing his temples. I giggled, thinking his dragon must have heard him and gave him a loud, agonizing, telepathic shreak. I attempted to keep my laughs to myself when Aaron made a face that signaled me to stop laughing.
A large purple light blinded me for moments, and once my vision was clear, a metallic purple dragon swiftly perched on Aaron's shoulder. It was small, probably the size of a hand span of a teenage guy. It had the bluest eyes imaginable, that they could put the sky to shame. It's head was small, with silver-white lines that formed a sort of tattoo on it's forehead that looked like a moon.
She turned to Aaron, bit his neck sharply and said, "What did I tell you about talking behind my back? And flirting with females when I'm not around to make you feel embarrassed?" My eyes widened at the last statement, and Aaron's eyes copied mine. He put his hand over her small mouth, causing her to struggle as he had her nostrils and mouth clamped in his large hand compared to her mouth.
"Now, Serenity, what happened to using your telepathy?" He said, clearly hiding the red tinge appearing near his cheeks. I found it funny that Serenity thought Aaron was flirting with me somehow. He was just trying to help me out on my first confusing day of my new life. Then again, no one randomly starts blushing unless something that shouldn't be told was told.
"Ymm handth fmel twml." Serenity muffled something under Aaron's mouth, which he removed after a few moments. "I said, your hands smell terrible." She nagged, catching her breath, "You should go use sanitizer or something."
"At least I don't live in a cave, where it smells like old dragon shit." Aaron countered, getting bit again by Serenity. Their relationship was funny to witness, like an elderly couple that never agreed with one another. I wondered what sort of relationship I would have with Jinx. I looked back at him, who was waiting for me to introduce him to Aaron, as he seemed very interested in Serenity.
If you want to come say hi to Serenity, you can. I looked at Jinx and thought to him. I saw him tense, even from the little distance between us. He shook his head, making him look like an idiot if you didn't know what was going on.
I don't want any business with your boyfriend's dragon. He thought to me, a sly smile creeping on his metallic face. It was now my turn to flinch and turn red. Yes, I found Aaron a nice kid, but...he was the only guy I knew in the school. There's bound to be more guys out there like, or even better than him, right?
Before I could respond with a rant about how Aaron was most certainly never going to be a boyfriend of the sort, I caught Serenity looking at me. Something in particular, but I couldn't tell what it was that she was looking at. It was either my forehead or my orange eyes.
"Your eyes are orange." She stated the obvious, "Have they always been like that?"
"Uh, yeah, they have. At least I think so." I replied.
"When have you learned to use your powers, do you know?"
"I'm not sure. Age 5 I think. Why?" I asked. After she heard that information, she started to get tense, and Aaron made an astonished, confused face. They looked at each other and nodded. I wanted to ask what was going on, and felt small again, like I was turning into a freak in their eyes.
Seeing my concern, Serenity spoke for both her and Aaron when she said "You're something different. I can see it in the color of your eyes. But this puts you in danger if the wrong people find out."
"W-what? Why? I'm lost."
"You are the key to chaos and control of Semora."
