It was a beautiful morning. The sun shone brightly, birds chirped joyfully, and the garden was filled with a gentle fragrance carried by the breeze. In the middle of the sprawling garden, a 14-year-old girl played joyfully, trying to catch butterflies.
She spotted a particularly beautiful one, its wings shimmering in the sunlight. With light, careful steps, she tiptoed towards it, but just as she reached out, the butterfly fluttered away.
Y/n: Aww...
She sighed, visibly disappointed, watching it disappear into the air.
Suddenly, a warm voice called out from behind.
Mrs Lee: Y/n baby, what are you doing? Come here!
Y/n: Yes, Mom! Coming!
She turned away from the butterflies and ran toward her mother.
Two families were gathered in the Lee family's garden, right in front of their grand mansion. It was a lunch gathering hosted by the Lees an effort to spend quality time together. The Jeons and the Lees had not only been business partners for five years but also close family friends for over a decade. Y/n was the only child of the Lee family.
Laughter and chatter filled the garden as everyone enjoyed each other’s company. A large table was beautifully set with an array of delicious food, and both families were seated, sharing light-hearted conversation.
Y/n suddenly looked up and tugged at her mother’s sleeve.
Y/n: Mom, I'm hungry!
Mrs Lee: Oh, sweetheart, here have some pancakes.
She handed a plate to Y/n, who eagerly took a bite.
Y/n: Wow! It’s so tasty!
Mrs Jeon smiled warmly.
Mrs Jeon: You like it?
Y/n: Yeah! It's so good!
Mrs Lee: Then thank your aunt. She made them just for you.
Y/n turned to Mrs. Jeon with bright eyes.
Y/n: Thank you, Aunty! You always make such yummy food for me, and Uncle always brings me chocolates. I’m so lucky!
Mr. Jeon chuckled.
Mr Jeon: Of course we do, sweetheart. You're our cute little princess!
The adults all laughed at her sweet expression. It was clear that Mr. and Mrs. Jeon adored Y/n like their own daughter.
The conversation carried on for a while until Mrs. Jeon looked around, noticing someone missing.
Mrs. Jeon: Honey, where is he? He should've been here by now. Please call him.
Mr. Jeon pulled out his phone.
Mr. Jeon: You're right. He should've arrived already. I'll call.
He dialed a number and waited. The phone rang, and finally, the other end picked up.
Mr. Jeon (on call): Where are you? Why haven’t you arrived yet?
??: You know I don’t like all this...
Mr. Jeon: You know how important this is—not just for business, but for the friendship between our families. Don’t waste time, come soon.
??: (sighs) Huuu... fine.
The call ended.
About fifteen minutes later, the sound of an approaching car caught everyone’s attention. A sleek black Mercedes rolled into the driveway, and the engine purred to a stop.
All eyes turned to the car as the door opened. Out stepped a tall, broad-shouldered young man. He looked about 20. He wore a fitted black shirt tucked into slate-grey trousers. A luxury watch rested on his left wrist. His dense black hair fell slightly over his forehead, and his dark, intense eyes scanned the scene with little emotion. His aura was calm yet commanding almost intimidating.
This was Jeon Jungkook, heir to the Jeon Empire.
Mr. Jeon walked over to him and gave him a side hug.
Mrs. Jeon: Finally! You’re here.
Jungkook simply gave a small nod.
Mr. Jeon turned to Mr. Lee with a proud smile.
Mr. Jeon: Mr. Lee, meet my son Jungkook. The next CEO of Jeon Enterprises.
Mr. Lee walked over, surprised and amused.
Mr. Lee: Oh! Son, you’ve grown so much! I remember you as a little 11-year-old boy.
He gave Jungkook a hearty hug. Everyone chuckled at the memory.
Mr. Jeon continued with introductions.
Mr Jeon: Come, son. Let me introduce you to the Lees. This is Mrs. Lee.
Mrs Lee: Hello, son.
Jungkook gave her a respectful bow.
Mr. Jeon: And this this is little Y/n. Lee’s daughter.
Jungkook’s eyes found her.
She stood a few feet away, wearing a white, knee-length frock that flowed gently with the breeze. Her long hair reached her waist, and her face, still soft with youthful innocence, had stunning features doe-like eyes, rose-pink lips, and flushed cheeks. She truly looked like a little angel.
Y/n stepped forward curious.
Y/n: Hello–... (excitedly)
As their eyes met, Jungkook's piercing stare locked onto hers. She felt frozen, unable to hold his gaze. Her excitement faded into nervousness as she quickly looked down, intimidated. A knowing smirk played on Jungkook’s lips.
Mrs Lee clapped her hands.
Mrs Lee: Alright, everyone! Since Jungkook is here now, let’s start!
The lunch proceeded with light chatter. Jungkook, although quiet, occasionally stole glances at Y/n, his gaze unreadable.
After the meal, Mrs. Lee stood up.
Mrs Lee: I’ll go get the dessert I prepared. Come, dear, help me.
Mr Lee and Mrs. Jeon also followed to assist, leaving behind Y/n, Mr. Jeon, and Jungkook.
But just moments later, Mr. Jeon received a business call and stepped away to take it.
Now, only Y/n and Jungkook were left sitting together at the table.
Y/n quietly nibbled on a chocolate Mr. Jeon had given her earlier. But then... she felt it.
That feeling like someone was watching her.
She lifted her head slowly and, sure enough, her eyes met with his again. Jungkook sat relaxed, arms crossed, staring at her with the same unreadable intensity.
Her eyes fluttered in confused nervousness, heart thumping in her chest. She held his gaze not too long before averted them, lookin down.
