Underestimated Kiongozi

Summary

Obviously I do not own The Lion King/Guard. If I did, it would be less realistic and either Kion and Fuli definitely would have gotten together or Kion and Rani would have had more time for a relationship to develop.

Kion had a good life, what with a loving family and friends, and being leader of the lion guard. All of the animals adored him, and most lioness cubs had a crush on him. Kion was oblivious to this, of course, but the point stands.

Just because everyone loved him however, didn't mean they thought he was all that strong or smart. Neither did he. But he had always had a greater understanding of the world and all the animals in it.

Kion understood and learned all the traditions of all the herds before Kiara, even though the only times he heard about them was when he was playing with Bunga and such while running past Kiara during her lessons. Kion just observed the herds and learnt without meaning to, or knowing he did so.

Kion understood concepts he hadn't even been taught yet, but no one knew. He understood why different herds didn't get along, why some were frightened of Fuli only when she was alone, why they weren't frightened of him. It was the female lions that hunted and cheetahs always hunt alone. Most male lions didn't even know how to hunt.

Kion knew Rafiki could talk to the lions of the past, he knew his father could talk to Mufasa, to an extent. What he didn't know, was the limit to them speaking with the Great Kings and Queens of the past.

Everyone underestimated him, even himself. Especially himself.

Kion could hunt better than Nala if he tried. He could fight better than Simba, lead better than Kiara. Kion was just as wise as Rafiki, just didn't believe in himself.

Mufasa never had to give him much advice, just to do what he thought was right. There were a few times they just talked too, when Kion was too stressed to think properly, or when he couldn't sleep.

That's when this story starts. With Kion standing on the edge of Pride Rock talking to Mufasa when Simba comes out to speak with Mufasa, knowing he wouldn't get anymore of an answer than the wind.
