The gentle hand that caressed me. The soft lips that kissed me. The melodic voice that said my name as if it was his greatest treasure. As if I was his greatest treasure. The hugs that were warmer than our bed. I longed for it, I begged for it, but it was never granted. I had left him, abandoned him. If this was the end of me, I wanted to see him just one more time, to look into his eyes just one more time, to feel his warmth just one more time, to see my name on his lips just one more time. But he would push me away, I knew that for sure.
"You chose them. I won't forgive you for that"
My eyes opened and showed me that unfortunately my life was not over. It was cold under my back, as if I were lying on metal. The room was glaring, a large lamp shone down on me, blinding my vision. It smelled so strongly of disinfectant that I couldn't pick up any other scents.
"Are you awake, my dear?" Said a male voice above me. The light shifted and a face came into view. Male, late twenties, blue eyes, ash blond hair. A wide smile on his lips. He wore a white coat with a name tag. "Dr. Sterling."
I was seeing a doctor.
"You're lucky your supervisor reacted so quickly, or you'd be dead right now." The man opined, turning off the lamp.
"Dead?" I asked in amazement.
"Dead." He repeated. "You were bitten by another vampire, and a fullblood at that." He gave me this information as if I knew what he meant. I sat up slowly and felt stabbing pain in my shoulder. It was tightly bandaged, and I could barely move it.
"Explain it to me please, because my brain feels like mush and I don't understand anything at all." I said to him with a groan. It was not an exaggeration.
He smiled sweetly, put his hands in his smock and started talking, "To turn a human into a vampire, vampires mix their own blood with the human's, they do it thanks to a small pouch located just below the fangs. If you look at a fang through a lens, you can see a small hole at the tip. It is through this hole that blood is delivered to the open wound of the human. But if that happens to a vampire, there could be a discrepancy between the attacker's blood and the attacked person's blood, which in most cases leads to the vampire's death."
I stared at him with wide eyes. I didn't know any of this. I was not aware that vampires could be killed without decapitation. The corpses.
"If a vampire dies this way, you could find the blood of the other vampire in his body, couldn't you?"
I asked the doctor, who slowly began to nod and then said, "That would be quite possible." Then he frowned. "Why?"
I shook my head and forced myself to stand up. Maybe I had found out something that could get us somewhere. I couldn't stay here, I had to talk to Kalma right away.
I headed for the door, but the doctor rushed to my side. "Take it easy, you've been lucky, but that doesn't mean you can go about your daily life like everything is okay." He said this with a concerned look, but I didn't have time for that. I thanked him and was about to open the door, but flinched because of the pain. "I'll handle it." Said the doctor sweetly. Before I walked out, he said, "Please consider my words, I'm saying this for your health." I nodded and stepped outside.
The sun seemed to be as tired as I was, because it had almost disappeared behind the hill. I looked at my surroundings and saw that I was not coming from a hospital, but from a small doctor's office in the middle of a street I did not know. It looked quite inviting from the outside, and the sign said "For anyone who needs help."
"Thana!" I heard my name being called loudly and turned back to the street. Kalma came running toward me with open arms, but stopped abruptly in front of me when he saw my bandaged shoulder. He must have wanted to hug me, but decided to take my hands and squeeze them tightly. With concerned eyes, he asked, "How are you? Does it hurt?"
