I widened my eyes. I shuddered when he spoke those words. He then tapped on my writing pad in my hand. ""Matthew 6:14.""
"I didn't know you read the Bible." He then said with a loving smile. I started nodding slowly and said, "Yeah, it gets boring around here real quick, so I just find a way to pass the time." I started to sweat since it was a fat lie, but remained calm. His smile remained on his face as he said, "I didn't even know there were believer vampires." He seemed almost happy about it. He then turned back around and continued with his examination.
After a few silent minutes, he finished and said that my shoulder was completely healed and the pain I was feeling was there because I had been straining the shoulder the whole time. With this great news, the doctor left again and took the painkiller back.
"I'll talk to your supervisor and tell him you can go back to work." He said at last, and I nodded.
As the door slammed shut, I crossed everything out on my writing pad. Then I wrote, "Matthew 6:14 = Bible verse." I didn't know what it meant exactly, I barely remembered how the verse went. Something about forgiveness. But what did that have to do with vampires? Did the killer ask for forgiveness after he committed the crime, or did he ask for forgiveness for his victims. What would someone like Derrick ask for forgiveness for? I needed to know more. But I had to think of something to get rid of the collars first.
There was a mirror hanging in my bathroom, and I went there and studied the device around my neck. It was cold metal wrapped around my neck, and a red light flickered slightly from a small box that electrocuted us. Four small screws held it together. If I could open the little box, I might be able to turn it off and then pull it off, too. Unfortunately, I didn't own a screwdriver and I highly doubted that anyone here in the station had one. I therefore used the only thing that was available to me. My nails. I used the nail of my little finger and lengthened it so much that the end was small and pointed.
Then the fun began.
Two hours, two fucking hours I stood in front of my mirror trying to open that little box. Either I slipped or my hand cramped. Someone else had to do it for me. Kalma had to get it.
I walked out of my bathroom and stopped in front of my door. With my eyes closed, I tried to guess if he was still in the precinct. Unfortunately, I couldn't smell him anywhere. I guess that meant I had to wait until evening came.
My eyes wandered to the window, from which I could see the bright sun.
The world outside was peaceful while I rotted here, but I had gotten used to the idea. All that was happening was just a distraction from the realization that once it was over, everything would go back to normal. Loneliness and boredom was the only thing that made up my life. There used to be more, I had more, I had him. My heart missed him, my hands missed feeling his skin under them. My dream world showed me all too often what I had left behind, for what? I should have listened to Talon, we could have survived. It might have been a struggle every day, but I wouldn't have been alone. This loneliness was eating me up from the inside, and nothing in this world could stop it except-
My eyes caught something in the bushes. It rustled and seemed to be hiding something. I quickly opened my window and had to process all the smells that were all pouring in at once. The rustling didn't stop, but I didn't worry as the, oh so familiar, smell of burning tickled my nose.
Instead of the young mixed, the fullblood came out of the bush. His black strands blew in the gentle breeze, while his icy white eyes would not let me leave their gaze. He wore his coat again, in whose pockets he had stowed his hands.
"What do you want?" I asked him suspiciously. We may have had the same goal, but that didn't make me trust him or his vigor.
He rolled his eyes. Apparently he was as pleased as I was. "Leroy told me to keep you in the picture."
