This was probably the first time I didn't know how to resolve a situation. The devil stood before us with a questioning expression on his face. Unfortunately, no words came across my lips that would make enough sense for him to believe me. The fullblood next to me seemed to give no sign of opening his mouth, so I had to say something.

"I can explain." I said hastily, but nothing more came out. He looked expectant, like he really believed I had a valid excuse ready. The devil crossed his arms in front of his chest and his gaze drifted to the vampire next to me. Then his eyes wandered up to where the fullblood was still holding the Bible. Should I tell him that I had become religious? But that would only explain the Bible, not the fullblood.

The devil sighed briefly and spoke, "I don't know if I want to hear the explanation." He then stroked his hair and walked past us, but first he said to us, "Just don't break anything." And then he disappeared into his office.

The vampire next to me didn't seem to be the least bit impressed, so he just kept flipping through the Bible. Stunned, I stood by and fought the growing desire to really smack him, but then he smiled and proudly announced, "Found it. "2 Samuel 22:17" Here it is."

He turned the Bible in a way that I could see and held his index finger up to a phrase. I read aloud,""He stretched forth his hand from on high, and took hold of me, and drew me up out of great waters""

I thought about it for a long time, then asked, "Are there "big waters" here in town?"

The fullblood flipped the Bible closed and walked briskly to the door. I wanted to follow immediately, but something held me back. Orders have never been my strong suit, but for some reason my legs wouldn't budge. One half of my brain told me to hurry and hurry after the fullbloods, but the other told me not to leave the precinct without permission. Had I sunk so low already that I had to ask permission?

I gave myself a jolt and dashed out the door, after the vampire I had almost lost sight of. His black coat blew in the wind as he walked down the street. His look showed no doubt, he knew where he had to go. I had barely managed to catch up with him, but his pace was quick.

We walked past several houses until we turned into a country road. There the road became a little rocky, the fullblood went stubbornly straight ahead. When the country road became a forest path, I began to wonder. How did he know with such accuracy where we needed to go?

The further we walked, the more I had the impression to hear rushing water. Then, when the fullblood disappeared between thick bushes, I forced myself to follow with a sigh, only to stop in amazement. The sight before my eyes took my breath away. In front of me was a lake whose water was so clear that you could see yourself reflected in it. The meadow that surrounded it was colored with the most beautiful green. What's more, the grass smelled so good.

"How did you know about this place?" I asked quietly, as if I didn't want to disturb the beauty of it.

"It's a good place to get away from it all, so we come here often." He explained to me as he walked slowly around the lake. Then he looked at me and asked, "How did that verse go again?"

A little uncertain, I answered: " "He stretched out his hand from on high and took hold of me and pulled me out of great waters"". He nodded and began to take off his coat. He folded it and laid it gently on the grass, on top of it he placed the Bible that he had held in his hand until now. Then he took off his black shirt and folded it just as carefully. When he started to take off his pants, I had to stop him. "What are you doing?"

He stopped, one leg already free, the other still in his pants, and looked up at me. "If I went into the water with my clothes on, the fabric would soak up the water and pull me down, so having as few clothes on as possible is the best thing."
